MediaPortal Version: 1.2.0.0
Windows Version: Windows 7 Home Premium

I have recently installed MediaPortal, connected it with MC2XML, and set it up to record my favorite shows off of an antena on our roof using a Win TV-HVR-2250 card. This is working very well and I have not had any issues with it.

I am now trying to play the .TS file recording in another room using WD TV Live Plus HD media player. Once I select the file to play, it takes about 30 seconds until it starts playing and then after about another 30 seconds, I lose the audio and the picture seems to move a bit slowly.

Has anyone run into this issue and successfully resolve it? If so, I would love to know how you did it.

    Hi there and welcome :)

If I understand correct, the recordings work fine in MP but not on the other media player.
Unfortunately I have no idea why that could be, maybe someone else will share ideas.

In the mean time, maybe you should try something like mcebuddy to re-encode the file to avi.

    Hi MP Gene!

After converting all my recorded TV-Shows to .mkv, playback with WDTV Live is working fine!

    1. Cut and Repair the .ts with TSDoctor!
    2. Demux the file with tsMuxeR 1.10.6
    3. Mux and convert the file to .mkv with mkvtoolnix 4.0

    Best regards

    Helios

    Rekenaar/Helios,
Thanks for the quick reply and the possible fixes. At a high level, I am really looking for a replacement for our VCR with a slick interface like MediaPortal or Windows Media Center. I also want to be able to record in one place and watch in many. Having to convert the files, unfortunately defeats the purpose. Quite frankly, I don't know if what I am looking for exists. I also want this to be something my whole family can easily use. Do you know if there is a way to modify MediaPortal to record in a format that WDTV can read without having to touch the files after the shows are recorded?

:D for your advice and thoughts.

Oh and Rekenaar, you are correct. It plays just fine in MediaPortal

Unfortunately (for you) MP only records ts files.
I do not know anything about WDTV but maybe you should google your problem with it hoping for a firmware upgrade that fix your problem.

Yes, it's a known issue of the WDTV (live)! After repairing the recording with TSDoctor, playback should be working fine!

    Rekenaar,
Thanks, I was looking for other people with the same problem, but was having issues finding them. I was truely hoping it wasn't just me doing something wrong. Wait, actually I was, because I wanted a fix.

    Thanks again,
    Gene

    Okay Mr. Helios,
It looks like I am going to have to look at alternatives. Do you know if if TSDoctor can be run in a batch mode? Can I script it out?

    Thanks,
    Gene

Well, I have returned the WDTV live device and I am moving on to another device. I ordered a Iomega® ScreenPlay® TV Link DX HD Media Player. This one looks like it will be very similar, but it also supports the AC3 audio format, which apparently the WDTV does not officially support. This is the audio format that MediaPortal records in. Wish me luck!

...but it also supports the AC3 audio format... This is the audio format that MediaPortal records in.
Just to note: with digital tuners MP records the stream exactly as it is received from the broadcast. If the broadcast contains an AC3 track then there will be AC3 in the recording; if it doesn't then there won't be an AC3 track. The situation isn't quite as straightforward with analog tuners. There the format depends on the hardware or software encoders used with the tuner. Generally the audio is MPEG unless you have an HDPVR or Colossus, in which case it would either be AAC or AC3.

Hope the new toy does the trick! :)
