Hi Mike, hows the progress with the webservice going? :) Looked very promising! I'm still struggling in keeping my Media Portal installation to run smoothly unfortunately. Hope to have sorted it out soon so I can spend some time in software development instead :)

Hi,

it's not working as good as i hoped ;)
You can find the code here General Media Access WebService the mediaportal db access bases on DieBaggers code. My first task was to merge his old project together with my beginning of the WCF service and the filesystem parts.
So currently it's not working :D

Hopefully i have some time this weekend to improve the service.

Since i'm playing around with ASP.NET MVC for a while and this services hasn't get much attention by myself, i thought of using it as source for some usable information which i can present with ASP.Net...

And now here is what's done till now ;)

May be if Oxan makes MPWebstream a bit more generic i will try to implement media streaming in this interface to...

I appreciate all suggestions ;)

I'm wondering a bit about the "low" amount of feedback... nobody interested in such an interface?

Anyway i've integrated a login mechanism and a nicer album view... and tv is on it's way ;)

    Hi there,

I think what you are doing is great, but it does not have the mainstream appeal to most users.

I believe most users want/like a fully finished solution that they install and it works for them. Hence a webservice development would only appeal to other devs/web builders (as a builiding block/enabler to provide a nice look and feel for end users)- and there arent many who are developing web support for MePo (Cheezy, Oxan, etc)

    Many thanks,

    J.

Well regarding the underlying webservice that's correct ;) But the screenshots are as everyone can see from a webinterface like IPIMP ;) That's what i meant ;)

I agree with Jay_UK. Additionally, I believe team devs and testers are wery busy with 1.2 beta atm, so not to many "geek eyes" are monitoring forums for thesethings atm.

Keep up the good work - I think this is going to be great!

Of course that we are interested in such an interface Mike!!! Many thanks for all your hard work man!

For me, the most interesting thing about a web interface will be to be able to manage TVServer (specially the Scheduled programs) from any PC in the local network or from outside the local network. It would be wonderful to see what's TVServer doing, if there is enough space in the local drives for more programs, edit or add new schedules directly from the web (the only way to add a recording right now is using a Mediaportal client, which is not really user-friendly in my opinion),... I know that this can be done using iPiMP (and I already use it), but iPiMP is designed for small screen devices and not 22 inches PC monitors. Making a special interface for doing this things in a PC would be awesome!

Mike, did you ever have a look at 4theRecord? Their interface is incredible and they have many features that would be interesting to add to MediaPortal (although I don't know if you can add them as a separate program or they must be integrated into TVServer code). The features I'm talking about are: rule-based schedules, server status notifier (awesome!), e-mail notifications if something is wrong with the server,... It's a really interesting plugin for MediaPortal (although they have their own TVServer called Argus)

The ability to view your music, movies, tvseries,... collection is also really interesting and if you could add the streaming option that would be superb. For music, for example, adding the ability to create music playlist while browsing your database would be really useful, what do you think?

But, the most important thing about all this stuff is... when are we going to see this released? All the projects you guys are working on are amazing: TV4Home, GMAWebService (Oxan), MPWebStream, WifiRemote (Shukuyen), TVViewer... I can't wait to see them working hand by hand and completely integrated into Android, PC, iPhone, WinPhone 7,... applications. Absolute control of Mediaportal at home and in any place of the world, the future!

Please, don't give up and keep up with the good work Mike, this is going to be amazing.

    Best regards,

    Aitor

Now that one looks really promising. I've been using the web-interface of 4thercord for some time now and always thought that it would be really great to have such a tool for all parts of mp. Combine that with a streaming solution and you've got a real killer combo.
    Good Job

At first thanks for your feedback! I really appreciate it!

Since this is a really great extension of mp i'm not sure how much of it will part of future webinterfaces except the original 4therecord one...

I've already talked to Oxan and when the backend of MP Webstream supports streaming of generic content i will integrate this in the above shown webinterface :)

For music, for example, adding the ability to create music playlist while browsing your database would be really useful, what do you think?
Sounds like an interesting feature, i will have a look on how this could be done.

But, the most important thing about all this stuff is... when are we going to see this released?
I can't give you a fixed date but i will try to implement most features of the TV4Home service to do the step towards a full featured webinterface for mp :)
