Hi,

I just want to know, what renderer setting gives the best/most beautiful picture quality ?

The EVR is required for DXVA in vista but it droppes frames which sometimes results in choppy playback. That's why I'm considering other options.

As far as I recall developers posting on this subject, Vista & 7 will definitely work best on EVR and areo MUST be enabled.
    And then VMR9 for XP.

EVR is definitly better. However I get very bad "tearing" under winxp. To the point where i am forced to use vmr9 :( As far as I know this is normal behaviour and will not be fixed. I guess when I know MP is stable with win7 I will switch.

I think rekenaar did answer your question - it depends on your OS and system.

How can you possibly say EVR is better when you get bad tearing under XP??
I've invented a car which give 10,000 mpg, never fails, and runs on water as a fuel. Unfortunately it only works when the temperature is 1000 degrees C! Same thing really - pointless!!

It not only depends on the HTPC hardware either - the size/type of your display has an effect too.
IMHO you'll not see much difference if your display is under 37" so it's a moot point really.

The general consensus is though - XP = VMR9 - Vista+ = EVR, just as rekenaar said...

Well the quality is befinitly better (winxp with evr)...

....until the whole frame moves (im on 46" lcd)

    lol.

Anyways, I was just trying to point out. evr is better period (imo). However its clear not everyone can use it.

Wasnt trying to be a smart-ass.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

VISTA/Win7: EVR is better than VRM9
XP: VRM9 is better than EVR

Therefore it depends on your OS. If your happy with either OS then i believe that EVR has a slight edge.

The picture quality should be same whichever renderer you use, the only difference is if your pc setup can make FULL use of the chosen renderer, I use EVR for both XP and Vista\Win7, for me it just seems smoother.

But as the old saying goes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so everyone has there own opinion about this :)

    Regards and Merry Xmas
