What hardware do I buy to IR Blast successfully (1 Viewer)

Hi there,

I currently use a cheap cyberlink remote to control MediaPortal using Intelliremote to key map and works excellently.

However, I want to see if I can use an IR Blaster to take some remote commands from the cyberlink remote such that the system then outputs a remote signal via the blaster to turn on the TV, or change my amp channel.

Is this possible, if so, what hardware/software do I need to achieve it?

All you need is a MCE receiver w/blasters. (although getting a Harmony would perhaps be an easier way to achieve the same).

The only reason I would go down the blaster route would be if it was lots cheaper.

What sort of price might I be looking at for a blaster? I can not find any online (not sure what I am looking for).

Just look for a MCE-compatible remote with included blaster on Ebay. I only payed 13 Euro lately for a brand new one (reseller from China). Works great.

Hi mate,

I have been through my fair share of remotes! :O

I run a harmony for my main HTPC (nice bit of kit - but I can't get used to the activity functions - plus the software config program is pants!) with an ebay MCE receiver (built into my HTPC) - this has the option to blast, but I use the programming feature of the harmony for my other devices

I have tried a hauppage remote (but thats back in the box).

I also tried a cyberlink remote and receiver - but had problems with S3/waking

I have also tried a sceneo/fractal design remote (liked the look of it) - but again wouldn't wake my client (and no blaster)

So full circle... I bought another MCE remote/receiver/blaster off ebay for 12 quid.

I run that one my spare room client, with IRSS (to control my TV too) - works ok (but not the most stylish/well made remote)

I have the same problem as Jay in that I can not wake my PC from hibernate using the Cyberlink remote.

I ended up using the remote supplied with my Compro S350 DVB-S card to wake up the PC because the card has the ability to connect to the motherboard power button connection and the remote will activate this function from fully shutdown. However, this is literally all I use that remote for.

I then use the cyberlink remote for all other functions once the system has booted up.

I suppose (thinking about it logically) the only way I can get all the functions working perfectly is to have a full-on remote like the Harmony, but I was thinking about doing it on the cheap.

Sounds like a cheap MCE remote with blaster might get me part of the way there (especially if I can get rid of the S350 remote and sensor).

I shall have a think about it.

do you know oneforall? they also have remotes, that can learn codes from other remotes via infrared and of course via codes and stuff and are much cheaper, perhaps that one could do it:
