I have windows xp and have been using MP for a few of years now. however, since I dropped cable and switched to (atsc) antenna, the audio on the different stations comes out drastically different. a couple of channels record clean audio. But with most channels it is very bad, usually going from very quiet, muffled and garbled during the actual show to blaring loud and choppy during commercials. One local channel (FOX) consistently records programs that are almost unwatchable, the playback speed seems to jump during playback and the video will skip forward a lot and the audio is seldom in sync unless i repeatedly pause. These playback problems happen on every video player that I try (some programs won't even open the bad files). However some channels, CW for example, records well, clean audio & video, consistently (so long as it is a good reception day). Any idea of how to fix this?
BTW, I am very disappointed that the newer versions of MP do not support Win XP. I find this somewhat silly considering that if I had Windows 7 or 8 or even Vista (YUK) the OS would include Media Center and I wouldn't need MP.

    Hello, I'm using XP too.
XP support is not dropped and your could try latest stable 1.11.0.
Personally, I'm using 1.3.0 since it's the latest version for me in which I don't have stuttering on videos.

    Hello and welcome deltad! :)

Any idea of how to fix this?
I'm not sure whether the problem is signal strength/quality, codec choice or something else.

If it is signal quality, you'd have the same problems no matter what OS and/or version of MP you use. Fixing it would be a matter of getting a better antenna, or aiming your antenna better, or getting an amplifier... something like that.

If it is codec choice, configuration could make a world of difference.

I strongly suggest you post log files so that we can see what is really going on:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/16_Support/3_Forums/2_Log_Files

Open MediaPortal with the watchdog tool option 1.
    Go to the TV section.
View up to 10 channels for around 30 seconds each. Try to choose a selection of channels that represent/exhibit the problems that you have described.
    Close MediaPortal.
Attach the zip file that the watchdog creates for you.

BTW, I am very disappointed that the newer versions of MP do not support Win XP. I find this somewhat silly considering that if I had Windows 7 or 8 or even Vista (YUK) the OS would include Media Center and I wouldn't need MP.
Let's get the situation 100% clear.

Newer versions of MediaPortal do still work on Windows XP. I use version 1.7.1, and it works well enough for me. As far as I know, MP 1.11 - the latest version - still works too.

The key word to understand is support.

MP works on XP for now... but we no longer guarantee to:
    1. Ensure that new versions of MP remain compatible with XP.
    2. Ensure that new features work on XP.
    3. Fix bugs that only affect MP when it runs on XP.
    4. Provide help ("support") to people using MP on XP.
We don't guarantee these things mainly because we simply don't have enough testers and developers who use XP to make it possible.

You're fully entitled to your opinions. Hopefully now that you understand the situation and reasoning better, you'd accept that we're just being practical.

When it comes to Media Center...
MediaPortal is not and has never been a Media Center clone. We make our own choices about design and support. Rightly or wrongly, being available/compatible on every OS that Media Center is available on is not one of our goals. Also, as you're probably aware, support for WMC is almost non-existent these days, regardless of what OS you use.

    Regards,
    mm

My sincerest apologies, when I tried upgrading, i probably saw a notice saying that MP no longer supported XP, I took that as meaning that it wouldn't work on XP. Did not mean to offend. Will try V1.11 if that doesn't do it, then will try 1.3.0
    Thank You
