What xmltv tags are supported by mediaportal (1 Viewer)

I'm working on writing a perl script for grabbing norwegian epg (I know this allready exists, but I want more and better info in my epg + I need to run it on a server so that it will be updated even if the mediaportal machine isn't running as several other machines in my house use the epg too).

Anyhow I've been testing using tags like subtitles episode-num etc but it seems that most of them aren't supported by mediaportal. I don't have the patience to use try and fail on every single tag to see if they work or not, so it would be great if somebody knew what tags are supported :)

thanx

What kind of info is it you need? The norwegian grabber currently grabs all information availible on it's source (dagbladet.no) and a new grabber is under development that will grab from a "pre-grabbed" source. Somewhat like the sweedish swedb grabber. And you can run the norwegian grabber on a server without problems.

Well... The quick and dirty version of my grabber has allready been running on my server for a couple of days now. At the moment i grab from no.dagenstv.com (quicke than db.no). But, the main two reasons for making my own is

1) I can easaly fix it myself when it's broken
2) In the near future (my pvr todolist is now 2 A4 sheets ;-) I'm going to add multiple sources. (Episode info, thumbnails and ratings from tv.com, movie blurbs and ratings from imdb, extended program info from ngcnorge.com, etc. etc.) Basically only time and imagination limits me.

Another idea I have is to add my own internal tags while grabbing tv guide info based on a set of configurable rules. F. ex. a warn tag, telling my remote contol to warn me when a episode is about to start. This would alow me to use just one rule to f. ex. have my remote and/or tv warn me that an a simpsons episode from the latest season is on. Doing this while grabbing frees cpu on my remote pc and tv pc, and utilizes my server that basically idles other than routing and serving a couple of hundres web requests an hour.

    Hi Cyclo,

I'm happy to hear your plans. However, instead of starting another project I think it would be good to help on existing projects. I'm always looking for help to improve WebEPG. Also there is already work underway on a Personal EPG guide project, which plans to tell the user about certain programs of interest.

    cyclo:
Ofcource you can do this. As long as you don't distribute it. DagensTV has specifically said that they will not allow itself to be used as a source for grabbing. That's why the old tv_grab_sn died.

And the new norwegian grabber will do everything you are trying to do. Grab extended descriptions from channels own source, get info from imdb.com/tv.com (even. amazon.com if nesicary).

But, it's a nice project to get programming experience on. So if you want to do it, I say go for it.

Because we (the XMLTV grabber developers) respect their wish. So when they broke our grabber (by filling the programinfo with "This information is illegaly obtained") we didn't fix it. It was actually an easy to fix problem. (Still talking about the old tv_grab_sn grabber)

But still.. We operate after the rule "It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission". :) Meaning that we use a source without asking, until asked not to. ;)

tv_grab_no: I don't need the experience ;-) I've programmed perl for 9 years now. I'm just doing it because, If something doesn't work the way you like, do it yourself.

james: would love to get involved, but I don't have much time at the moment. Let me know what kind of help you need (perhaps a couple of regexp from hell ;-)

everybody: This isn't a public project. It's for my own personal use only. But if anybody is interested I'll share the source with them "as is".

It isn't illegal to grab in this way. It's up to you if you want to comply with their wishes or not... dagenstv.com is a showcase for a skandinavian tvguide suplier. As far as I know all online tv guides in norway buy their data from them so this could easily be trouble in the future. (PS: no.dagenstv.com as of yet at least doesn't include the copyright tags). The reason they don't want grabbing from their site (I would guess at least) is that they probably feel it competes with their own tvontime tjeneste (Http://www.tvontime.tv)
