Which codec do you think i should use? (1 Viewer)

Hi there,

There are quite a few codecs and different settings and codecs for different things.

I was wondering what would be the best selection of codecs for my Computer Spec.

I have heard of PureVideo by NVIDEA and that is supposed to be quite good.

Would like some input.

I have looked at the codec guide but it has no mention of purevideo and i assume thats because it gfx card specific?

Since you have a 6800-card, I would def. recommend PureVideo.

If you don't wanna spend any money; MedaPortals own MPV/MPA-codecs are a good choice (from own exp. and from what I have read in this forum).

PureVideo all the way here (Celly380, 6200) - recommend the same for you (although never tried a DVB-card)

Thank you for your help "Okay", I will go and buy a licence for Nvidia PureVideo, I thought it would have been free with the gfx card tho :/

Does anyone here use "Post Processing", is it worth it? Do you need a fast CPU?

If you are using a DVB-T tuner card then you shouldn't really need post processing, at least for television. It is more important for analogue cards, when it can be used for grain reduction, sharpening, etc.

Does anyone here use "Post Processing", is it worth it? Do you need a fast CPU?

you defently need a faster CPU than your 1GHz Athlon to enable post processing with 3-4 filters. FFDShow post processing can make your picture look much better but since its a software decoder it uses to much CPU if you enable luma, chroma filters and image resize.

Anyway i use
NVIDIA Pure Video decoder for MPEG2
Kopeis Xvid Decoder for mpeg4 xvid rips
CoreAVC for h264 decoding
AC3 filter for AC3 sound
Haali Media Splitter to control audio tracks.
