Since MediaPortal simply sets up a directshow graph with the filters you have specified in it, it seems like this is probably not a MediaPortal issue but an issue with the the filters you are using.

I'm pretty sure the issue is with MP. when I use any other DVD playback software (TheaterTek, Media Player Classic, Zoomplayer), using the same codecs, overlays, settings, etc. there is no issue. It only happens with MediaPortal. It's definitely a bug.

With all the great work that has been done to the code lately, I hope this is getting closer to the top of what is up for a fix next.

Are you familiar with ffdshow? You need to install that, set it up so that it works with MP, and then add a "levels" filter. Then set the input range in that filter for 16-235, and set it to full range.

It would take a bit of time to explain to you what ffdshow is, how to sue it, and how to set it up with MP. But if you have trouble making it work, let me know.

roosterx: What I meant, was washed out colours. I've seen a lot of posts where people refer to this as "Like watching through a thin grey filter" Or someone just says "PowerDVD gives a much more colourfull and brilliant picture"
I think this is the same thing only put in different words.

koach: To call myself familiar with ffdshow, would be the biggest lie I told all day!
I'll give it a shot though. Thx

I'm guessing that windvd is outputing with black=16. Normally this would be communicated to the renderer and this is being lost by MP.
I'd have guessed it would be possilbe to set up VMR render to provided image processing - contrast/brightness/gamma at least. Specially with some pixel shader - But this requires someone with time and motivation! :)

We really need to find a solution for this problem soon. The picture looks like crap compared to any external player.
