Today I tried to install MediaPortal on my laptop just to have a look (for my future HTPC), but I was confuised ...

During the installation process I got much times warnings from my antivirus program (Kaspersky Internet Security 2009). Media Portal Installation have created a temporary binary file like NSF52.tmp, which tries to implant a program code in system files C:\WIDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONIME.EXE (conime.exe Windows process - What is it?), C:\WIDOWS\SYSTEM32\TASKKILL.EXE and change their running mode. Following internet forums it likes to be a typical behaviour of a malware program :( Oh ... I have forgotten, before it reads <USER>\Documents\desktop.ini.

So I know that MedialPortal is open source project, but I dont have such time and experence to understand
- why it needs to do such modifications?
- what my information will be transfered in the future from my computer?
Otherwise I would advise to look for an other media centers.

P.S. Software configuration: Windows Vista SP1 (RUS)+.NET 3.5 SP1+MS SQL Express 2005 SP3+MS VC++ 2005/2008 Redistr

    The only "access" that MP needs upon installation is your "Operating system" and requirements installed, there is no change made, why kapersky is taking this "read" access as a violation unknown, I would take it up with them.

    This is not the first time a AV company has been over enthusiastic in the monitoring of software installations, but they do need to know about it, so it can be added as a exclusion.

    May be, because MP opens upon installation some systems files in "read+write" mode, but without modifications of them? Any other installs by me work under KIS 2009 very well.
