Hi All,

Can someone please tell me why I cant get 5.1 audio out of WMV files when played in MP if i dont enable AC3Filter as a Post Processing codec? I have tried the setting "Use 5.1 sound for WMV files" but it doesnt do anything for me.

With the post processing codec on I get digital sound perfectly. WMVs work fine too. But if i remove it WMVs revert to just a front left and right channel only. MKVs still output digital fine though.

Media Portal itself is configured thus...

Videos - Video Player:
MPEG-2 video: CyberLink Video (PDVD9)
H.264 video: CoreAVC
MPEG/AC3 audio: MPC - MPA filter
AAC audio: MPC - MPA filter

DirectShow Filter Control - MPC - MPA Decoded Filter:
AC3 decoder: S/PDIF
DTS decoder: S/PDIF
AC3/AAC/DTS/LPCM Format: PCM 16bit

Surely this isnt right as the SAF post says DONT INSTALL AC3Filter FOR FEAR OF DOUBLE DECODING.

The other weird thing I've noticed is this with a few movies, The Dark Night for example. If i remove AC3Filter from post processing then the audio flickers on and off at a very fast rate, but its stuttering the sound constantly throughout the entire movie. As soon as i enable the AC3Filter it plays the audio perfectly. So far ive only noticed this on 2 of my movies. Everything else plays absolutely fine.

If it helps i can interrogate the file and paste the codec details here? Not sure what you would need so please ask if you are interested in helping :)

Thanks for any replies,
D.

Surprised by the no replies and number of reads :)

But ive posted this in another forum and it seems you wont get 5.1 audio on the files if they are WMA audio unless your receiver can decode WMA audio. Otherwise it will be 2 channel, so you can use AC3filter to re-encode.

Thought id share that just in case anyone wanted to know!
