Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has got any of these tv cards to work with Media Portal?

**Compro VideoMate DVB-U500 USB2 Digital TV Tuner, HDTV, Teletext, FM Radio

**Compro VideoMate DVB-U3 USB2 Digital TV Tuner, HDTV, Teletext, FM Radio

**Freecom DVB-T USB Digital Antenna Stick bus-powered + remote HD ready (receive freeviewTV through your PC/laptop)

Has anyone had any troubles with this card:

**Lifeview TV Walker Q DVBT USB2 Receiver - PVR, Radio, Portable Antenna and Showcentre Media Centre?

Thanks.

Is anyone here using that card/usb stick, is it good? Any problems?

Also can anyone tell me if i can connect it to my rooftop aerial without having to adapt the usb stick or roof cable? Ie does it take normal aerial cable?

Also it recommends that you have a p4 2.0ghz or above to use the usb stick.

I have a 1.9GHZ P4 which i would like to use with it, would that be good enough? Concidering i would be using media portal aswell?

It has a cable converter to accept normal aerial plug.
Found it is a discontinued model.
DVB-T because there is no encoding done should work on just about any reasonably modern pc.

Might be worth having a look at supported card list and scrolling through the usb versions and googling for prices, etc

    Thanks for your help.

Yeah I only suggested that one as it was on the supported list and can be had for £30 delivered new.

So DVB cards don't actually encode?

    What about when recording.

I have the U3 Compro stuck and a while ago D-Man added support for it, but I still get the "Unable to create graph" error with it. I think I need to send him the required info and error logs again, but haven't got around to it.

It also has an adaptor for regular antenna input (Belling Lee type).

I have a couple of Comptro t-300s which are excellent performers so I imagine this would be a great card too, when it is working with MP correctly.

Within MP records as DVR-MS Files (mpeg within a MS wrapper, which can be removed using the compress feature)

I know with my internal lifeview card with the latest drivers, it was rock solid, hopefully this has carried over into the USB version.

The Trouble is choice, look at ebay, there are lots of different/unknown makes selling there, do not think so much the card thats important but the driver supplied, so try and stick with the more talked about ones (ie good comments).

Have a look here for more info/features.

Forgot to say but remember all these are usb2 standard and will not work with usb1.1 (not a fast enough connection). Just in case someone with a older pc/laptop is reading and thinking of getting a tv card. PC can be upgraded to usb2 but laptop cannot.

Yeah thats what i was thinking, i just want the cheapest TV card/usb/box that will do everything media portal can do with the best stability. Ie watch and record tv.

I might be able to get a BlackGold card for £35 off a mate, so i will probably go with that, but if not get that lifeview usb.

    Question:

Can media portal be setup to do recording on tv straight into divx? If so what sort of processing power would you need?

MP cannot record direct to Divx, even the compress function to Xvid has had support droppped for now.
there are a lot of workarounds if you read posts that deal in editing.

Processor power 3Ghz might be ok, but a dualcore would be better like a athlon X2
