Not sure where I should post this, so if it needs to be moved, my apologies. I thought I would post it up in-case anyone else wants to get it running on 2003.
I managed to get TVServer all working on a fully patched 2003 server install, with MySql running on another box (didn't want to install MySql on the media server).
I came up against two problems which I managed to overcome.
1) Windows 2003 does not have Media Player 11, so the Media Portal installer would not work.
2) A socket refusal when starting the TVServer config program (TVServer Configuration)
Ok, firstly I ran the advanced setup, told it SQL was already installed (as it was on another machine) and the TVServer only option. I let it do all the dx downloads, c++ stuff, and then quit when it came up against the issue of Media Player 11. I then did an uninstall.
So to solve problem 1).
Download MediaPlayer11 Windows XP version and save it to desktop. I then right dragged and expanded it. In the expanded directory, I set XP compatability on wmp11.exe and wmfdist11.exe. I then ran wmfdist11.exe after it had completed, I ran wmp11.exe. After all of that I then started up MediaPlayer 11 from the start menu just to check all was ok. Seemed to run fine.
I then re-installed Media Portal as above.
To solve problem 2)
I checked that the hosts file was ok, as per this info here
I then looked at the log files and noticed that TvService.config (in the ...\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Sever) was not found. I copied and TvService.exe.config and renamed it TvService.config.
I then checked the TvService was set to automatic in the windows services, and it was started/running.
I then started up TVServer Configuration and it started up all ok
Everything seems to be working fine. Viewing TV no problems from a client install on Win7.
