windows 7 and onkyo displaying switching problem (1 Viewer)

upgraded to a SSD and having problems with XP which i had on there before, with no issues, with the HDD. now personally i dont mind XP or 7 but im having 2 issues:

1) when updating the database info for My-TVSeries just seems to "hang" and not update any information about any of the series. havent yet tried Moving Pictures but i can imagine it will be more of the same.

2) i have HDMI passthrough enabled on the onkyo, this means i can have the reciever on and get 5.1 through its attached speakers or if i so wish, i can turn it off and the sound will be 2.0 and come out of the tv's speakers.

i used to be able to switch the reciever on/off whilst watching a movie and it wouldnt break a sweat. however now when i do it, it basically crashes but before it does that, it resizes the video display to about a quarter of the screen. i then have to CTRL+ALT+DEL, task manager to exit MP.

personally i would have used Windows 7 if u switched to a SSD HDD.

You should post your logs if you want help with the mytvseries import

As for 2/ my mediaportal does the same thing with my Pionner AMP (PC HDMI to AMP HDMI to TV HDMI), if the amp is switched off while mediaportal is playing a video, then back on again, medialportal will be crashed in a quarter screen window.

to goes around such display problems,I use a direct HDMI-connect to my Sony TV and optical out via ac3filter and passtrough settings.
The HDMI-Out checks alwasy what kind of display is connected. When no signal is detected, the hdmi-port will be disabeled. When you switch back, the graphics card tryed to restart the output with a valid resolution for an now "unknown" device. This resolution-change "confused" MP and it stops working.
The bascic problem is, the graphics card has no valid HDMI-ID as a HDMI-AMP ore TV and the amp can't handle this device "correct", because it is an "unknown" device.
A similar problem here.

thanks for the replies, i somehow (!) managed to get XP back on (previously it was not detecting the CD to complete the XP install during the GUI part even though i had chosen to use the correct SATA drivers) so am in the process of setting it back up.

havent yet tested if the switching works as before (as i installed the latest drivers from the NVIDIA site but still have the original ones i used somewhere) but overall for me XP was a better htpc experience, apart from the quarter screen video corruption, 7 for some reason when logging in plays some sort of sound even though i switched all sounds off!

mastyman: sorry no logs, gone back to XP and hopefully shouldnt have any further problems, i think i needed the latest version of mediainfo installed to fix the problem.

quake2rambo: i dont know the specific specs of it, just that its an Acer Revo R3610 that i've upgraded to use a SSD.

fyi, the latest driver didnt work. so went back to the "195.62_desktop_winxp_32bit_international_whql.exe" drivers and i can switch the reciever on/off during a video and i dont get the quarter screen corruption.

also figured out why my onkyo was clicking a lot on new new XP install (it wasnt before on the old build), i had the realtek audio disabled this time round as i didnt use it. reenabled the realtek and set it to use nvidia (hdmi) and all the clicking whilst browsing mediaportal has gone, also its gotten my 5.1 back working as well!
