Windows 7 Problems (1 Viewer)

Every time I've tried to use Windows 7 I get really bad stuttering. The problem doesn't seem to be just with MediaPortal either, apps such as RealVNC also had poor performance...

If i use XP, all other things being the same... everything works flawlessly.... i can stream full size BluRay Iso files and they play back perfectly, and start quicker on XP...

so... does anyone know why Windows 7 sucks? Is there some setting that would allow for a quick fix?

Just posting to say that I did finally find a solution to the problem, even though... I'm not sure if it's the best one....

If I disable the swap (paging file/virtual memory whatever)..... the problem is solved

Remember that the same machine works fine in XP.... with swap space.... I get about 50 MB/s to the hard drive... which takes a 25gb bluray about 7 minutes....

that's more than enough bandwidth, but it does only happen over the network, when i copied the test file to the local drive it didn't stutter....

so it's swap space / network based in some fashion.... and i wish i had a better solution, or explanation....

does nobody else have this problem? i've seen this same thing on multiple systems... and only with windows 7

No such issues here, and I have a rather embarrassing four PCs running Windows 7.

have you tested streaming BD-25 (or larger) ISO files? that is the only place i get trouble, or possibly a large M2TS file, which is essentially the same thing

make sure Aero is on...it has something do to with whether your graphics card uses hardware decoding or not.

Aero is definitely enabled... I've never tried not using it though.... wouldn't really want to (might be a good test though).

just figured i'd update this thread... for no apparent reason the stuttering came back... and i tried everything... different ethernet cables, re-enabling then disabling the swap again, disabling aero, reenabling it... among other things....

so long story short.... same exact programs, albeit 32-bit versions are now on XP.... on the same exact system.... the only variable being windows 7, 64-bit home premium..... and the playback is back to being flawless.... (running xp mce 2005)

the LAN speed is identical when doing file transfers... it's only when streaming large m2ts or bluray iso over the network that the playback stutters (not just stutters, but entirely unwatchable)....

i'm surprised more people don;t have this problem, as again, i've seen it on several systems

Just a guess: Maybe you could try to exclude the relevant files or folders from being scanned by your antivirus software?

For me this did the trick! Useful to try at least..
