Nope! Not for me. Still got the same issues as I had before!
Only some parts of the remote works, like the OK and the circle of buttons surrounding OK. All the other buttons like BACK, STOP, FF, REW, JUMP F, JUMP B don't work. Whereas on XP and even on Vista ALL buttons work after installation and selecting MCE Remote from the Configuration program.

    No matter.

So come on MediaPortal creators, get this situation sorted as I love my beloved MediaPortal, no matter how nice Windows 7 MCE is! At least sort out the remote issue. Pleeeeeeeeeease!?
    :D

Why are you running a beta OS on your primary machine? Then asking to fix software to work on said beta OS? If you want to play around with new OS's, I recommend looking into virtualization. ;)

As good as your intentions may have been for this post, it does come across with a demanding tone. Dont be suprised if the responses you recieve seem a little negative. Being on the edge of technology is one thing, but going over the edge is a completely different story.

EDIT: have you tried the IR server suite for controlling the MCE remote on windows 7?

New Hardware - New OS :)

    I have installed Win7 7022 32bit on different machines.
    1) 4 year old Dell Inspiron notebook with only 128MB Gfx
--> much better Gfx performance with Win7 and less memory usage. Overall much better performance
    2) New Acer X1700 MP client
--> better performance and better EVR/VMR support when in multi seat setup, much better network performance
    3) 1 year old Dell XPS 420 MP Client
--> same a 2 / tried to install XP on this machine - nearly not possible because of hardware issues and driver support!
    4) Dell Studio 15 notebook - I develop on this machine (VisualStudio 2008 / IIS applications)
--> same as 2 and fastest performance of VS I have ever seen !

General no problems with streaming (SD and HD) at all. On Vista machines I always had to try and try to get everything running fine.
On Win7 everything went well right from the start!
Best beta I have ever testet.
My friends are reporting the same (Developers and NT Administrators). We are really looking foreward to the final release of Win7.

On the other hand - with 7022 my MCE remotes don't work with all buttons any more! (original Microsoft, Philips and Hauppauge)
--> I would be very glad if there is a fix for this issue :)

MP rulez - even on Win7

Well the mce remote problem is solved easily. Try the vista mce replacement driver and the ir server suite. then disable the automatic buttons for the driver in the ir servers input configuration an everything will be fine. You can also use the mce replacement plugin works fine, too. But with the ir server suite you can start mp with the green button. Well why use a beta OS on the primary machine? I don´t know. But with Windows 7 you could also ask why not. Currently i am running the 7057 build and before that the 7000 build. Im now running windows seven for four month and there is nearly nothings that isn´t working except the mediaportal tv-server. No reboots no blue screens, are the blue in windows 7? Well i can´t see any use for Windows 7 if you have that big core 2 duos or quadcore processors but if you use a pentium 4 or an old sempron you will see what sence windows 7 makes. Well i had Windows 7 on a sempron 3000 with 512MB Ram running, forget to put the second ram in again after i needed it for testing, try that with vista but make sure you have prepared 4 coffees :D
Then the next nice thing is a dxva compatible h264 codec included in windows 7. I hate that cyperlink or mpc codec troubles. Maybe the ms codec isn´t the best but its working and even in MP final. Tried that allready. How do i know that dxva is working? Easy on my machine without dxva you only get a slide show :D

And again the problems that the tv-server has on windows 7 have been there since vista tv pack 2008 and thats now out for a year. Well i tried to fix that problem but failed, maybe in case of never having seen c# before. But as i can see the problem isn´t the tv-server. For me it looks like it is the used directshowlib. And the newest version has been made late in 2007! Nice was founding out that for compiling the tv-server windows 7 has all that is needed. Well recognized that after downloading and installing about 6GB of Windows SDK, DIrectX SDK and Visual Studio 2008 Trial.

Thanks for that Andre. Exactly what I'm saying. Not everything works.
I'm sure we will get there in the end!

    Hey AlienAndy,

Have you considered getting a wireless keyboard so you don't have to walk over to your computer to use it? I picked up a relatively cheap Logitech RF kb/mouse combo meant for Playstation 3 and it works like a dream with MP. My main input is still the MCE remote, but I often find myself using the keyboard just because I'm too lazy to reach across the couch for the remote. It's pretty small and light and travels around the room almost as easily as the remote. Not ideal, but might be a cheap workaround until you can get Win7 to play nice with your remote and it's way better than giving up MediaPortal

update, here's a link: Logitech's new Cordless MediaBoard keyboard for PS3, eat that Phantom

another update, that page states that the kb costs $80, but i picked mine up a year ago at a big box store for much much cheaper.

Thanks for your advice mate. Nice one.
I will consider my options. Nice to get some genuine replies of help! THANKS.
I love my MediaPortal. I could lose all me TV, and as long as I have my MediaPortal, then I'm happy!

While I agree that developers shouldn't waste time on beta releases of Windows, as soon as Microsoft release the RC, that is the time to start checking compatibility and functionality. As developers, you know that RC means the code should be almost final and it's only showstoppers that are likely to hold up the final release.

Almost every time a new OS is released, it's a (sometimes very long) wait for developers to start supporting the new platform with drivers and updated software. This became very clear with Vista when some companies left users waiting 18 months from the RTM date to actually having usable drivers.

That's just wrong, and there's really no good reason for it. Microsoft dish out the SDKs that are freely available to developers, and the developers sit there and wait to see if the OS is going to be popular before actually putting any effort in.

I'm not saying this is the case with all developers, and I also know that MP is written by developers in their spare time and given away for free, which is something I'm sure we all appreciate. But please guys, don't wait for the RTM before you start checking out Windows 7 & MediaPortal. It is going to replace Vista, and it is a far better OS even in it's beta stage.

These are of course just my opinions, but I think you'll find from the gossip of those who are beta testing it, that I'm not that far off the mark.
