TV-Server Version: 1.0
MediaPortal Version: 1.0
Windows Version: Vista Business 64
CPU Type: i7
Motherboard: P6T Dlx
Video Card: HD4870
1. TV Card: Hauppauge HVR-1300

This sounds similar to an issue I am currently experiencing.

I was updating the movie database against IMDB when my computer crashed (BSOD). Whether MediaPortal caused the BSOD or not I can't tell, but somehow I doubt it.

Launching MediaPortal now makes it crash, and Vista provides the following data:
Description:
Stopped working

Crash-logs attached.

MediaPortal Configuration loads, but with an exception.
"There is an error in XML document (0, 0).

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I get the options "Continue" and "Quit". Continue works, apparently without ill effects. When finally clicking OK the same dialogue comes up, and presumably no changes are actually made.

I tried reinstall (albeit without removing the existing installation), but I don't think it tried to overwrite any existing files. Presumably one of them has become corrupted, hopefully some config-file somewhere. The .xml and .exe.config-files don't look suspicious though.

Thanks for any suggestions.

    Move the mediaportal.xml out from here C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal just drop it onto the desktop for now, now if you start config does it still give error, if no, then just reconfigure.

    You may want to try this with the databases if error persists, remove them one by one and put back if no change.

    There is no mediaportal.xml in any of the three subdirectories of Team MediaPortal. Could it be under some other name?

    Thank you for your very fast response times. Many projects suffer from a slow user-only support forum. It helps with dedicated staff that has good knowledge of the subject.

    Solved the problem by replacing the entire MediaPortal-folder with a backup. Hence one of the files must have become broken by the crash. Maybe an idea to have a SHA1-sum-check in the error-log utility?

    Edit:

    Corruption ultimately caused by failing hard drive.
