Hi,

Its more of a general question regarding running different versions of Media portal on the same PC.

Basically I have a nice stable build on my pc with 0.2.2.0. Which has lots of plugins associated and skins than run really well for what I want.

But... I want to try the latest version of media portal, and all the new plugins and skins needed for that version.

The question is, can this be done, and if so is it via different windows users? So I could have 2 different media portal users, and they would have short cuts to the two different install directories?

Or do I have to bite the bullet and uninstall the old version and start from scratch?

Idea ->
Create a Image/Ghost first before trying the latest version of media portal.
this way you can always switch to the fully functional installation that meets your needs.

Hmm, thats far from ideal... especially when you consider how many plugins there are out that you have to mess around with to get to work.

You should be able to run 2+ versions of media portal on the same pc, so you can iron out any issues without having to resort to a totally new install/ghost I think.

Is this possible, I hope it is.

Copy your whole MP folder to somewhere safe ie cd or external HD.

Create new user with admin rights, from that profile, install new version of MP + svn for that user only.

Worst scenario is uninstall new version, reinstall old MP and then put your old MP folder back.

You could also install MP to another folder\drive within the original user, but personally would do it the first way.

Whats wrong with taking al snapshot of your greatworking-system before switching to a maybe less stable config?
The installer of 0.2.3.0 rc2 will ask you to remove any previously installed MP software,
so i think the current config will be gone for good ... if you dont BU
This is why i suggested to create a image/ghost/snapshot whatever you want to call it

Well for the simple reason you cant test a new install in a few hours or days even. Being able to run them both in parallel if needs be is the best option. Theres so much to configure for media portal, especially when you throw in all the plugins, and as anyone knows its not always easy to get your favourite plugin running if you do a new install, due to any number of issues... and whilst your messing with a new version its always nice to be able to go back to the stable one to watch a movie or tv etc.

Again this is in an ideal World, if its not possible then I will have to ghost the system, and try and get everything running with the new version ASAP, but it will be a pain in the ass. Especially when I have to migrate my movie database, emulator database etc etc. Also I modified skins myself to get the look and feel i wanted, which I will have to do again....

Right now i'm trying to get RC2 to work correct ...
For instance myTrailers and MyMusicVideos dont display anything ... Unable to Play ...
