Hi

I want to install MediaPortal on my HTPC. I have two WindowsVersions:

- Windows XP Media Center Edition
- Windows Vista 32 Bit Ultimate

Which Version should i use to run with MediaPortal? Please also tell me why i should use one of the two versions. I can´t decide to use XP or Vista, because i don´t know which Version is better supported by MediaPortal. So please help me. Thanks.

Greets...

I am by no means an expert but I would suggest Vista over Xp for HTPC use. It is a better OS, it has a better renderer (EVR) and the Media Center is included and is much better than the one in XP, if you ever use it. Both are supported by MP.

its swings and roundabouts. There are a number of posts on this forum asking the same question and no definitive answer as to which is 'better' as ultimately it comes down to a matter of personal taste.

EVR is a decider for some people. Also sleep issues with one os or the other (or related drivers) can be a deal breaker.

Do a title search in the Forum for "XP OR VISTA" (with quotes) and Im sure you'll see plenty of information to make your own decision.

Personally speaking Ive used both and these days use W7 for no other reason than that it does sleep/resume more reliably on my machine. If you were to ask my opinion, I'd say, start with whichever one you like better, and if you run into any issues then try the alternative :)

I would add the rider to that though that if the machine is low on ram/cpu then that changes the equation - as you would know, Vista is not a fun OS on a machine that cant run it adequately. For a 'current' build, though, its probably equivalent speed-wise.
