Yes, WMV is my only format other than some ASF which should be same deal.
Wow! I'm really surprised. What caused you to choose WMV?

Can you see what is in the logs now for decoding things?
    Sure:
    • splitter: Haali Media Splitter
    • video decoder: WMVideo Deocder DMO
    • audio decoder: LAV Audio Decoder
    • video renderer: Video Mixing Renderer 9
    • audio device/renderer: Default DirectSound Device
I changed a bunch of settings thru Codec Tweak tool, and then set a couple settings in MP1. Plus I think the kicker was I switch to Haali Media Splitter for the splitter.
For the record, I wouldn't recommend use of Haali (no longer developed; has had stability issues; not as powerful/flexible as "modern" splitters such as LAV) or Video Mixing Renderer 9 (except when it's the only choice, eg. Windows XP).

I chose WMV because my entire house is powered by Xbox360's and Windows Media Center. Only WMV will play 5.1 on those devices. Plus have the whole cablecard and recording shows and playing them thru xbox's....

Hard to go with your assessment of Haali. May be accurate, but LAV video is jerky and in my opinion the video isn't as good, Haali it plays clean and normal and fast forwarding and the like is faster.

Odd it's using LAV for audio. I have wma unchecked in the lav formats to use.

Mmmm, while I can understand your perspective given your observations, from a technical standpoint (and with the greatest respect) this just doesn't make sense. Haali is a splitter; LAV video is a decoder. They do completely different jobs so it doesn't make sense to compare them. However, you could compare:
    • Haali and LAV splitter
    • WMVideo Decoder DMO and LAV video decoder
    • VMR9 and EVR
As I mentioned in my previous reply, I'd have chosen LAV splitter over Haali and EVR over VMR9. In particular, EVR video quality should be a little better than VMR9. This is easy to change [in MediaPortal Configuration] and check:
    Video Renderer

The choice between WMVideo Decoder DMO and LAV video decoder seems to be fairly meaningless given that LAV video decoder settings -> formats tab has the "use Microsoft WMV9 DMO decoder for WMV3 and VC-1" option which is enabled by default. In other words: LAV video normally uses WMVideo Decoder DMO internally. Therefore, all other things being equal, LAV video and WMVideo Decoder DMO performance should be identical. If it's not [identical], then something is off.

In my first reply I asked whether you'd configured sensible settings for your codec selections. At this point I'd probably repeat the question. In particular, what have you selected for LAV video -> video settings tab:
    • hardware decoder to use
    • codecs for HW decoding
(Screenshots of your LAV settings would be interesting.)

Hmmmm, I may have been mistaken.

    MP tries to use LAV:
[2017-10-06 20:42:48,361] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Added filter: LAV Audio Decoder to graph

However, when you stop playback I see:
[2017-10-06 20:43:13,612] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Disconnecting all pins from filter WMAudio Decoder DMO

I'm unable to determine which is actually used due to the use of VMR9 instead of EVR.

Let me look at my settings. I didn't touch anything on that screen. Attached is another captures with asf extension. I notice asf still has issues, just slightly different. Instead of jerking around when I fast forward and then hit play, it just sits there not moving while the audio goes and they it picks up. When I rename the asf to wmv it plays/fastforwards fine. So curious right now what asf is using which is attached.

    Thanks.

Wow surprised it's the same as the last one I sent. They are seemingly using different codex because of the different extensions. Add it stutters. WMV it plays good.

Looked thru the lav filter settings. Didn't see anything that was relevant to WMV but not sure. There was an option to turn on hardware encoding for the Intel 620 GPU but reading the forum they say it can cause tearing.

    Thanks
