Hi everyone, I hope you are all well

My Mum's Mediaportal lost it's marbles thanks to Microsoft update, (even though I had update switched off using WinAero Tweeker, but that is another conundrum)

    I fought with Microsoft and re-installed Win10 64 and then MediaPortal V1.37
Mediaportal 1.37 was a breeze and everything configured OK until I set up EPG collector
The collector runs and gets the channel data she wants and delivers it to the XMLTV file in the Geekzone/EPG Collector folder that has the .ini and .dtd files
EPG collector log shows me the selected channels data and confirms the delivery
The html file is overwritten as expected and shows the channels data and times when opened manually
However when xmltv in MediaPortal TV Server detects the file change it confirms the automatic import of the new file but only 30 channels and no channel data
The mapping, set for a "Favourites" guide, has the mapping confirmed, but no data appears in the guide
I have gone over the setup many times, downloaded the latest .dtd from sourceforge, re-configured EPG Collector etc. but this made no difference
This process is usually so easy but this time my technical expertise has reached the limit so before I start again from scratch I wonder if anyone could give me any advice as to what I have missed?
    Thanks

My HTPC runs 64-bit Windows 7, but my Aorus laptop runs 64-bit Windows 10. On this laptop I have enabled the I am using a metered internet connection setting. When enabled, this setting stops Windows downloading and installing updates. You will still be notified that updates are available, but you can choose when to download and install them.

Like all prudent Windows users, you will of course use a drive-imaging tool to create a drive image of your Windows drive before downloading and installing the updates.

Note: this setting only delays the updates, after which Windows will download and install them anyway. I don't know how long they can be delayed -- a couple of weeks perhaps?

everything configured OK until I set up EPG collector
Hmm. I have never used EPG Collector, but I was under the impression that all it does is extract the EPG data from the broadcast datastream. Well, MP can do that directly -- you don't need to use EPG Collector! Is there some specific reason for using EPG Collector?

These are the settings that I recommend for MP's built-in EPG grabber:

    dvb_epg_1.jpg dvb_epg_2.jpg dvb_epg_3.jpg power_sched.jpg

If you want to continue to use EPG Collector and import the xml file, I will have to leave that to someone else to advise, as I have no experience of it.

I used to use the grabber but a few years back it disappeared on FreeSat DVBS. That is when I changed to EPG Collector. The extra benefit is that it collects from the Sky platform so it will give EPG for all the FreeSat channels plus the unencrypted movie channels on the Sky platform. It also allows me to pick the channels dedicated to the South East UK. For example I can get the ITV1 HD Meridian EPG that has a lot of shows she likes to watch

It has worked without a hitch for years up until the recent re-install and I have become good at setting up the collector to tailor the EPG, (or so I thought!)

    Thanks for reply, much appreciated

If your XMLTV guide isn’t populating, setting up an EPG Collector can solve the issue by giving you control over your guide data. This tool lets you customize the EPG to match your needs, ensuring accurate and complete listings.

The main benefit of using an EPG Collector is flexibility. You can pull data from reliable sources, adjust time zones, and filter channels to fit your setup. This eliminates gaps or errors in your guide. If you’re still seeing missing data, check your XMLTV file’s path and verify the source URL is active.

For a smoother experience, make sure your EPG Collector runs on a schedule. Regular updates keep your guide current. If the problem persists, double-check your configuration file for typos or formatting issues. Small errors can break the process.
