I for the life of my cant figure out why my system is crashing when i try to use hardware decoding with VMR9 on standard DVD. I have tried reformatting xp and reinstall everything. I am using powerDVD 7.3 and catalyst 8.9 drivers on a 780g mobo (radeon HD3200 graphix) and when i try to watch a movie it will play a few frames then crash my whole system. Now if i play a movie using hardware decoding in pdvd istelf I get no crashing. Also if I use the EVR instead if VMR9 it works in MP rc2 however I get noticeable tearing in videos (ESPECIALLY x264). Is this a classic case of crappy ATI drivers? Or am I doing something wrong. it used to work flawlessly :\, right now i am using the software decoder for dvd that comes with MP. However I think the video quality that comes off the hardware decoder to be better.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    BTW i LOVE MEDIAPORTAL! :D

If you are seeing a complete system reboot or BSOD then its pretty sure that ATI should have a look into the mirror and fix the drivers :)

I have the same mobo, etc and get nearly the same problem.
Mediaportal doesn't crash until I stop playing the DVD!

I do have another niggle which hopefully one of you guys can help with. I play dvd images from ISO's using Deamon tools. Mostly this works fine, sometimes the pictures judders as if the refresh rate is wrong. IF I press stop and start again - everything is ok!
