I have run a couple more tests of the latest newzap2xml_5.exe. extracted the *.zip to a folder. all files are there. created a .bat file with -u and -p parameters. with win defender enabled newzap2xml_5.exe gets flagged and quarantined by win def. extract files again, turn off win def, run .bat file and an xmltv.xml file is created which appears to be essentially the same as what mc2xml 1.7.2 had been creating until about 10 days ago.

My concern is the flagging and quarantining of newzap2xml_5.exe. I do NOT want to leave win def turned off. Is there any fix for this issue?

I appreciate all the effort being put into getting gracenote guide back.

You could add a Defender exclusion only for this NewZap2xml_5.exe or for the folder.

Mine is not flagged ???

I have made use of Defender exclusions before so I will add one for NewZap2xml_5.exe. This morning I force IMPORTed the .xml file I created last night and now have guide data back. No need to remap either!!!! Thanks to all who made this work!!!!!

The simplest way to get this working is to rename the old zap2xml.exe file and add to its folder the new version NewZap2xml_5.exe with its .dll files and rename it to zap2xml.exe. Run the .bat you have, and it will download the data as normal. If it activates the av, allow it to run and add an exception.

Howdy Folks, now that I am breathing again on this issue I can put two cents in. The issue with Defender or other AV police seems to happen to me on my Win11 test machine. When I did a wholesale port of the files over to my active Win10 machine it all worked 100% without a hitch. Could be a recent Defender or AV update that's causing grief. It is not only working as expected but also faster than the old Zap2IT site and all 14 days of TV Guide data. The renaming of NewZap2xml_5.exe to the old zap2xml.exe is an interesting idea. I'll try that on my Win11 machine that had no problem with the old .exe file. Will advise... cherrio. (y)

Well Kids... The sky is blue again (I hope). I was finally able to run the new Zap2XML_5 file in my Win11 test machine where I kept failing. After a few days of headaches it turns out one MUST add an exception not only in Defender but also whatever extra AV program you might be running. In my case I was using Defender as well as AVG Antivirus. I was adding an exception to one or the other but not both... purely a senior event. So I added an exception on both and it now runs like a charm in my Win11 machine. Renaming the new file is not necessary - Exceptions are. I will now confidently have that beer plus whiskey. Thank you Noise672 & tarrow & shazeldine for lighting the final match for me. (y)

I will now sail into the senior sunset. Live Long and Prosper.

Try this version (5) for me please.. It should work without any error, and should not trigger A/V either...
Been pulling my hair out since mc2xml stopped working last week

This version (NewZap2xml_5.exe) worked perfectly for me. Just wanted to say THANKS for all your efforts.
You are truly the antidot for what ailed me.

@antidot, thank you for the Perl file. I think I was able to compile it with the DLLs included in the exe. My MediaPortal machine doesn't have Perl and it works fine there. The source exe I compiled and zipped passes Windows Defender scans, but it will probably still trigger antivirus warnings once downloaded from the internet. I will check that as soon as I post this.

I didn't need to remap my channels but it seemed I needed to go into xmltv settings Mappings tab and click Load/Refresh. I did change the mapping for 1 channel after clicking Load/Refresh to confirm if I needed to remap everything, however all channels then imported without problem and I reverted my single change. So, a Load/Refresh may be in order, but hopefully nothing more.

Edit: downloading this zip from the forums did not trigger antivirus for me. Manually scanning the zip and exe which was downloaded also turned up nothing for me on Defender. VirusTotal still reports some things that AI suggest are of no concern, but it reported those same things on the exe before I uploaded it. VirusTotal

Just a note:
For the first time today (20250711) Windows 11 Defender flagged NewZap2xml_5.exe and took it away...
I restored it and put an exception on the folder: C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\xmltv

All is good
