I think you need to use the 1.1 beta for mediaportal to work correctly with windows 7. At least I am using the 1.1 beta + latest SVN snapshot with windows 7 x64 ultimate without any problems
The screendumps looks the way my system looks when using the internal dshow player. I wonder if this may be a VISTA vs XP issue. I am running under Vista and I see you are running XP
What music player are you using? If you are using the ASIO Pure Audio player you will only see the cover images.
At least everything is working on my HTPC with the BASS player

Other visualizations work with any player but Milkdrop 2 is causing some problems...

Any reasonable modern GPU will do the job (H.264 decoding required)
