    Hi,

I tried rotating a picture in MediaPortal as you have described, and for me there is no problem at all.

Does this happen with a completely clean install of MediaPortal 1.1.0RC5, or do you have any additional plugins installed? Would you be able to send me a picture that this can be reproduced with every time on your system, and I will test?

    Thanks,

    Mark

1/ Totally clean install, used 'most severe option' to clean previous one out. Standard install, np plugins

2/ Gladly send a couple of photos, but will be tonight as just heading off to train for a business day in London

    Thanks

    Hi Mark,

    Two more experiments carried out:

1/ Again did full clean and reinstall. Got exactly same results

2/ Installed on another machine using downloaded 'deploy' pack (Viglen Contender, P4 2.7GHz, WinXP Home SP2, but different - ASUS- motherboard to first)

This machine did not have DirectX on it, so installer installed it.

However, MP Config failed with 'Needs latest DirectX 9.0c' message. I downloaded latest version from MS site, installed, then ran MP OK (Earlier version in 'deploy pack'?)

I got exactly same problem as on other machine

3/ I have a few photos to demonstrate, which I would rather PM to you. However, I can't see an option to add attachments on PM screen. Any help appreciated.

Incidentally, is my system profile showing on messages? It shouild be

    Hi,

I have checked out the four pictures you sent me. I am afraid that I cannot reproduce the problem you are seeing.

I am interested to see that when MP creates the thumbnails for these pictures, they are the right way up, and indeed when I open them in windows they are also the right way up. However, when I open them (fullscreen) for the first time in mediaportal, three of them are in landscape rather than portrait mode (the fourth one is in landscape as expected).

I guess the EXIF data holds the correct rotation, although in my case I have 'Use EXIF metadata' enabled, so why is it not getting it right?

I see we have this in mantis

0002931: Exif-Data on thumbs not respected - MediaPortal Bugtracker

which seems to be the opposite. In this case the EXIF data is being used to create the thumb but not to show the picture.

Hopefully someone will have ideas about this.

Coming back to the original issue, could it be related to graphics card?

    Mark

    Hi Tekni2010

Enable My system in usercp, then you do not need to keep filling in your specs ;D

    How about this time?

    Hi Mark,

I don't think problem is the photos.

I have carried out further investigation:-

MP V 1.1.0.0 RC5 now installed on my 4 machines, with following results:

System 1 Viglen Genie P4 2.7GHz XP Home SP2 Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller Problem seen
System 2 Viglen Contender P4 2.7GHz XP Home SP2 Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller Problem seen
System 3 Dell Inspiron 1000 Celeron 2GHz XP Home SP2 Problem NOT seen
System 4 Dell Inspiron 6400 Dual Core XP Pro SP3 Problem NOT seen

Same install files in each case, same photo files, same MP config settings. Same DirectX.

All have had latest MS updates etc, except for SP3, which I have avoided so far !

    Comments:
    Not photo files
Doesn't seem to be linked to XP SP 2 or SP 3
Problem seen on two different P4 boards from different manufacturers, different BIOS
    HOWEVER, same graphics controller (Intel)
Not processor speed (Celeron probably slowest?)

I can send you copies of Windows 'System Info' pages if that helps - Tell me which pages would help.

I have EXIF disabled on all (I am using a mix of photos from many years from at least 4 digital compacts, 2 DSLR's and various scanned and pcd-converted images, thus EXIF would be a complication !)

The images might have been rotated already in MP, although I am trying to rotate in PaintShopPro to give commonality between viewers, esp. my Sony DVD/HD recorder. The eones sent open OK on all my machines, but with problem on the two P4s

I would guess there are a lot of P4 machines still out there. Morgan Computers are selling 'second user' ones regularly as companies upgrade.

Overall, an impressive application, very well done!!

Any more info I can find for you?

Other thing I need to do now is to find out how to remove some of the unused items on the 'rolling menu' screen. (Haven't looked as yet)

    Thanks for your efforts

    Mark,

    I think we've CRACKED IT !

Thanks to your comment about graphics card, I went to Intel site, found a driver update for graphics system, installed on System 1 (See above)

    NOW WORKS CORRECTLY

Will try same on System 2

One for a 'Known Problems' page, perhaps?
