Sorry for a new thread but I can't understand this and nothing fount up now.
Using my DVB-S card and scanning Hotbird(s) satellite on 13° est, TV server should found 2 channels named "Canale 5" (an italian commercial TV).
Looking LyngSat:
11432 V "Canale 5" provider "Mediaset"
11919 V "Canale 5" provider "Mediaset"
the only difference is that the first is always encrypded, the second usually FreeToAir (they encrypts only some sport/movie events) and is transmitted since years.
MyProblem: in the TV server list there's only the encrypted one.
Other channels at the same frequence of the FTA works very very very well.

Second: after "watching" the black screen of the encrypted channel, if I come back to a working channel the plyback starts from the beginning of timeshift buffer intead of live tv.

Thanks.
Daniele.

I have tried this:
deleted 11432 transponder from tuningparameters 13degreesEast.tpl
deleted "Canale 5" from my channel list
new scan of channels
now I have "Canale 5" again, the FTA version from 11919 transponder
So, I think that there is this merge error when 2 channels on the same DVB card (or satellite) are present.
Can be this entered in mantis ?

Thanks for the great work, new TV server is growing very well !!!
Daniele.

I have same problem on my analog card, 2 channels with same name, the last found channel is kept, and the first cant be used, is actually shown under the card itself, but doesn't show up in channellist.

New Setup

Hi guys,
time to time I've seen improvements on this issue, BUT, after a completely new clean installation yesterday with latest SVN I've found this:

Scanning DVB-S I have 2 channels "Canale 5" - everything fine ! One is encrypted and one FTA - very good ;)

But now I've scanned also DVB-T.
Yes, "Canale 5" is received also via DVB-T, and it's marked encrypted even it's completely FTA. So has been automatically merged via the DVB-S encrypted one already in the database (in channel list both DVB-T and DVB-S standard are shown)

Problem: if I go into the channel properties I can see/edit:
only the DVB-T properties if I've scanned DVB-T after DVB-S
only the DVB-S properties if I've scanned DVB-S after DVB-T

and watching the channel uses only the latest scanned card.

So, or yesterday I was completely boiled or something still overwritten (??).
Available to help if needed. Now TVE3 works so fine, I've just to set tv-guide and other small things.

cheers and thanks for the great product,
Daniele

If during a scan 2(or more) channels with the same Channel-Name + same Provider-Name are found, then the channels are indeed replaced.

PPL who use NA-Sat's have the same problem currently.
"normaly" there are not more that one provider with the same name one one SAT

maybe the solition woudl be to not replcae the channel if the tuning details do not match.
because that will avoid that all channels added again when you re-scan ;)
will talk with frodo about it

    I fixed already one issue
22/03/2007 [18:29h] gemx added: Fixed problem while scanning if 2 channels have the same name but different tuning details
That was when 2 channels with the same name but different tuning details were found ON 1 CARD.
There was only 1 channel added.
    This was what i fixed.
But there is still another problem:
The problem is TsWriter makes the channels unique by adding "(x)" to the channel name, where x is the times of occurance.
This only works while scanning a single card.
If you scan a second it will indeed overwrite the channel name.
I think best way would be to handle the renaming in the tvserver and not in the filter. So you can check all channels if they already exist.
Infinityloop: Since i don't have much time at the moment - Could you please talk to Frodo and tell him my suggestions?
    Thanks:)

Thanks a lot for the interest !
It will simplify TVE3 configuration !

Maybe I was not clear on this other point:
and it's marked encrypted even it's completely FTA.
It's the channel marked encrypted and reported by any DVB software, not a MediaPortal issue at all.

So a solutin for this could be that the channels from both cards should not be merged if the encrypted flag is not equal?

how about a simple config setting?
"replace channels during scan if Channelname and Provider matches -> Yes/No"
default YES (rescanning will simply update all channels then, no problem with the most Sat's)

if i have multiple channels with the same provider and Channelname, then i have to select NO

downside is that (in theory) re-scanning will never work correctly.
You will have to clear the channels and scan again (if new channls have been added or any channel changed tuning details)

i-loop's suggestion sounds good as it's possible (and in Finland seems to happen very often) that the channels tuning details are changing, think this would cause duplicate channel entries in DB.
