I thought that was the whole point of the client server config in MP? So the only benefit is I can set a recording on any PC and it will be recorded by the TV server?

Yes, that is the nature of the beast... but for TV, not saved video files or DVD discs. Recorded TV is shared by a client/server basis. I think (and this is just speculation) forthcoming releases will have a native client/server setup for all content. Just be patient, they are working hard!!

never worked differently than with a direct hdmi link from my full1080 laptop to the tv/digital output to amplifier
and network connected via router + gateway to my mediabox (which is in the attick)

network box is an old amd3800 x86 with winxp on it, clean install, no updates, nothing added
and holds 4 hdd's + 2 externals to hold at or about 10 tb
on these hdd's 4 are only for bluray.x264, 1 for dvdr and the last combo dvdr+tvseries
hdd's in the mediabox are simple shared inside own network only trough gateway => router => laptop

on the laptop using MPv1.1.1 on the laptop with MY-TVSERIES v2.6.6 and Movingpictures v1.8.x and as skin the streamedmp

MY-TVSERIES is locked into the tvseries hdd which i've mounted as hdd in the laptop
movingpictures is locked into all the hdd's that hold movies

inside movingpictures holding 3 important list items : lates entries (2 weeks) + all unviewed movies + all movies
time to list latest entries is +/- 3-5 seconds
time to list all unviewed movies takes me about 8 seconds
time to list all movies takes me about 12 seconds

whenever movie or tvseries is added into the mediabox => gets autilisted into MP (if the naming of the movie is consistent with imdb or other info gathering you have choosen, filename is best as described in the website where you retrieve the movie info from)

    works like a charm
