I really dont understand the need for a media app to support
any chat program at all.
Including MSN messenger plugin thats already been developed. (Waste of time).

I understand what you mean here, but it does open the door to some very interesting possibilties. i.e. video conferencing with family and friends from the comfort of the sofa with pre-defined contacts.

@chipx86: Would be really nice to see a Gaim plugin for MP! ;)

If I was to develop an IM-related plugin, I'd probably use it for presence (seeing who's online and their state). To do that, I'd interface with my Galago desktop presence system, which is Linux-only right now. Keep in mind, none of this may happen at all, but that's the direction I'm leaning toward thinking.

why not send im's with a remote control? I do it with a keypad on my cellphone all the time. It's really no different.

Hi there.

I'm one of the Gaim developers, and have been using Media Portal program ever since I saw it on Slashdot not long ago. First of all, I've got to say that I love this program. I picked up a nice little Vaio for cheap from a guy at work and thought I was stuck with the horrible little Giga Pocket software.

Anyhow, I've developed portions of Gaim so that it would be more or less trivial to do this kind of stuff. I don't have time right now to hack on this at all, but I've considered setting up a small client/server to pass presence information (who's online, their state, etc.) and whether or not you have new messages back and forth between a Linux or Windows box running Gaim and a Windows box running Media Portal. *Maybe* if I get some time and the desire, I'll do it. Otherwise, anybody who wants to set up a perl script or something could also interface the two. It just depends on whether or not you want an instance of gaim running full-time on your media portal box or not. :)

This would be one of the more useful things that have been made...

The reason I was thinking I needed more RAM is that TV now seems to be HiDef and so the files have grown. I edit the files before storing them, to reduce some size. It is finding that slower, I think. Or it could just be because I'm expecting more? The Baseboard manufacturer says ASUSTech Computer Inc; Baseboard product P7P55D-E...

i love how subtitles are implemented in the MP2 videoplayer, this is just perfect. 1080p playback is also very good. But video playback in MP2 is buggy when playing 4k material. Therefore: PLEASE add an option for an external video player! I'd LOVE to have VLC back as videoplayer, like in MP1! This works perfectly. You will make a...
