I don't know how many of you are aware of this, however, it may be that AnyDVD HD has finally come to an end. Their web site can no longer be found, and any attempt to decode Blu-rays or UHD Blu-rays fails due to the fact that AnyDVD HD cannot connect to their server.

My question is that will something like MakeMKV work as an alternative to AnyDVD HD for Blu-ray/UHD Blu-ray.

As I understand it, MakeMKV produces .mkv files. Will these play through MePo, or will I have to convert them to something else? If so, what file formats will work?

    Thanks.

Yes MakeMKV will make a .mkv file from blu-ray with donate version and the .mkv will play in MP.
As I recall, I think you can make .mkv from blu-ray for 30 days for free.

The MakeMKV can be used to decrypt the BluRay on the fly from MePo.
You have to copy dll file 'libmmbd.dll' ('libmmbd64.dll' for x64) from the MakeMKV directory to the MePo directory. Libbluray (bluray.dll) is able to use it.

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad MePo is "code ready" for an alternative like this.

If I copy the dll to the MePo directory as you indicated, will MePo be able to read any files I've ripped to disk? I realize that decoding BR disks on the fly eliminates the need to do this, however, sometimes, I rip to disk because the disks I get are in bad shape, and ripping seems to help work around the poor condition of the disks. I often get loaned disks.

    Thanks again.

Don't worry. The libbluray uses the 'libmmbd.dll' (besides of libaacs.dll and libbdplus.dll) only if the original BD disc(inserted in the drive) is copy protected.
If you have your BD disc stored somewhere on the HDD or NAS, then the content is already decrypted and those libs are not used.
The libmmbd.dll is actually some sort of API to interact with the MakeMKV to read original BD disc.

I have the same problem/question and am glad to have found a solution here.

But I have an additional question: When I saved Blu-ray Discs as ISO files, they still have copy protection. I removed it with AnyDVD, but at the moment I save them with copy protection on the hard disk, but I can't watch them. I've also tried DVDfab, but it doesn't work as smoothly as AnyDVD.

So what happens if I load a Blu-ray ISO file that is still copy-protected into a virtual drive? Then MakeMKV would also have to intervene and decrypt it, wouldn't it?

I currently use an old version (with 3D support) of PowerDVD to play bluray but the use of the MakeMKV .dll in MP has peeeked my interest as I suspect it will be less lumpy and maybe more controllable with my remote. Unfortunately it is not clear to me on how to implement it:confused:, I already have a paid version of MakeMKV installed but looking at MP I have not found a Libbluray directory only a Libbluray.jar and a seperate bluray.dll both in in the ProgramFiles/Team MediaPortal/MediaPortal directory. Can someone help me as to precisely where to copy the 'libmmbd64.dll file to.

Copy the dll to the "Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal" for me, that is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal" That is all you need to do.

You may also be interested to know that MePo works for UHD-BR discs (as long as you have a compatible BR drive that is updated to a MakeMKV Libre drive) with a minor caveat at the moment. See - 1.34 UHD Blu-ray "Cannot Play Index" error

I'm not in the same situation where I copied a .iso file to disc, however, as long as whatever software you are using to virtually mount the .iso file makes the .iso file available as a virtual disc, it should work. Perhaps @Pablik will correct me if I'm wrong.

Lastly, in the MakeMKV preferences on the "Integration" tab, there is an option to put MakeMKV into the path for the system. It's described well. I have not done this myself, however, the instructions on that tab indicate that if you do put MakeMKV into the system path, copying the blu-ray dll to the application directory would be unnecessary. Maybe @joecrow you would be willing to try this out and let us know if it works without copying the dll to the MePo directory? Thanks.

I'll give that a try, also I still believe I have one or two .iso blurays on disk and can use Virtual Clone Drive to mount them so can let you know how that goes too.
