hi,

just a quick question...
is there any way we can approve movies from inside mediaportal?
its a real pain when i have to say to my wife that the movie that was just added has to be approved in the configuration part.
* she only knows how to use the remote!!! :D

No there is not, but do yourself a favour and name your files such that the IMDb id is in the filename e.g. 'the blah (2011) [tt1234567].mkv'

When the IMDb id is in the filename you will get a match 100% of the time

ok, i understand that is a workaround, but having to go to imdb to search for the imdb id and write that on the movie filename is pretty much the same amount of work than going to moving pictures config and find the movie.

isn't there any way of showing the not approved items in the GUI?
that way we could at least watch the movie even if it doesn't have any info

This is a known request, so please 'star' issue: Issue 83 - moving-pictures - Support close match resolution in MediaPortal GUI - A movies plugin for the MediaPortal media center application. - Google Project Hosting

And you will be kept up-to-date on the progress.

In the meantime, you can use 3rd party tools such as theRenamer, which will do an imdb.com scan to correct your filenames, and you can configure it to include IMDb tt-ID with it, before you then import the movie. It's a workaround, but at least one exists, until issue #83 gets completed.

One minor problem with renaming movies (from my point of view at least) is that when you search for subtitles for the movie (with SubCentral), the match is no longer 100%.

That's usually only a concern for certain type of sources to obtain movies from that have to match with subscene scheme. Those same sources usually also supply an NFO file that contains the IMDb tt-ID then, and MovingPictures can obtain the tt1234567 info from that file and use it as well. That way a 100% fast correct match is also obtained without renaming the filename.

The only problem then is when the supplier messes up and re-uses an old NFO file and forgets to adjust the IMDb tt-ID to be the correct one, so your import gets added totally wrong.

    Nothing is ever ideal

Awesome, just what I was looking for. I am currently writing a little download mover application, which scans the nfo file and if it finds an imdb link will go to the imdb api and grab the movie title and year. I'll modify it to add the id in there too.

    Thanks.

That "little app" is all build into Moving-Pictures. The 'Simple NFO' scanner option will look for a tt1234567 number inside an NFO file that has filename-of-movie. That will ensure that the movie gets imported correct, so that title+year will be obtained by the scraper-scirpt of your preference. Then you can use the Moving-Pictures config method to rename your files based on this info and you've made full circle :)
