ATI 690G/x1250 problems (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

The new drivers have fixed my undetected hdmi issue, but now i am getting random flickers on the screen, whether in MP or not. Anyone know the solution..if there is one? Cheers!

As far as I can tell there isn't one. The chipset simply doesn't work as advertised at 1080p. Switch it down to 720p and it should work fine.

Ok, thanks. I didnt have this problem with the earlier 7.2 drivers though (but this caused my tv not to be detected when changing source) - quick question, in 1080p the ATI driver isnt filling the full screen. It is filling veritcally but not horizontally...anyone know why? I don't really want to have to stretch anything as in theory it should be mapped 1 to 1?

Jimbawb,

The ATI X1250 is not 1080P capable, so you should be happy to have an image on 1080P anyway

Dammit. That explains a lot. I must have made a blunder when speccing my motherboard. Thought the chipset was 1080p capable.

Ah well, that makes me a lot more comfortable going with the HD3450. Just need someone to confirm that it works well @ 1080p from Windows XP.

I have not tried my 3450 with 1080p material, but I can say that it is the best money I've spent on HW so far ...
PQ with reg tweaks are great!

HD 3450 summary
Pros:
- Great PQ
- No fan
- Does not get as hot as my (temporary) 8500GT
- Popular cards - lots of tips and tweaks
- No more flipY-error

Cons.
- ATi CCC (GIMME A FORCE FOR 1080p50 ATi!!!)
(- Read that 3650 had some HD improvements - not confirmed)

So flipY is fixed with the 3450 on XP? That's good news, certainly.

The 1080p50 shouldn't be an issue. I get the option with x1250 so I'm guessing my TV reports it correctly and I'll not need to force it.

I'm guessing it will generate more heat in my case than the integrated chipset, but hopefully not too much more.

So, only concerned about 1080p in XP now. I'll hang out and wait for confirmation and then pick one up. It's not an urgent thing, don't actually have any 1080p sources as yet but, fact is, I have a lovely TV capable of 1080p and I just have to use it at that res. Anything else would just be plain wrong, dammit!

Last time i updated my Ati to CCC 8.3 and it(1250) still don't work

I think that i better can looking for a 3450.

My Philips 32pfl5322 32" screen flickers when using the HDMI connection on the ASUS M2A-VM HDMI board.
Tried every resolution and frequency, new drivers and drivers from CDROM

While flickering, the Philips onscreen messages are simulair when turning on my DVD player, but with the DVD player it stays locked after a second and it works perfect for all resolutions in the DVD player.
It looks like the Philips is "loosing" the HDMI signal and trying to determine the resolution again and again and again.
Flickering becomes worse when playing a avi in MoviePlayerClassic. The Asus is probably very critical on timing, Philips might be on the edge of working range also.

I'm considering a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H, hope this one makes a better combination with my Display

If you have got problems with a freestanding DVD player as well, think your tv may well be faulty.
