Good afternoon,

I have a minor issue trying to configure my Hauppauge HVR-1600 for ATSC OTA antenna tuning. The card works fine, scanned in all the correct stations, however it displays the channels in the guide using the PHYSICAL channel number instead of the PSIP Channel number. So for instance, "Channel 3" is commonly known as and mapped to channel 3.1. It is actually broadcast on physical channel 22-1 (I love how the FCC made this a disaster).

Anyway, how can I make the stations appear in the channel guide using the local channel number (3.1, or even just 3) instead of channel "22"?

I am using the MediaPortal TV Server - 1.2.2 and the SchedulesDirect plugin for guide data.

Sorry, no. I "friendly" name all of my channels and arrange them by how much they are watched. (ie 13.1 is FOX-HD & 5.2 is NBC-HD) So channel numbers are a moot point for me.

I think you will find it is not possible - it is one of those things where North American TV does things weirdly (from a European DVB perspective) that I think MP doesn't handle. Normally if somebody wanted to change the channel number used to "zap" to a channel they would just edit the "channel" field in the tuning details. However in the case of ATSC the channel number (rather than frequency and other details) is used to tune the channel. In other words, in MP the logical channel number field is the same as the physical channel number field. Obviously that is somewhat of a conflict for ATSC. You may find that the logical channel number is listed in the major/minor channel fields, but it is not possible to use those fields for zapping.

Thanks, mm. Yeah, I understand how rediculous the FCC was with allowing this to happen. Are there any obvious work-arounds I could do to name the channels differently that I might not be thinking of?

If not, it's certainly not the end of the world.

Hi again

You can rename channels freely. In TV Server configuration:

1. Go to the TV Channels section.
2. Select a channel.
3. Click again on the name after a second - the name should become editable.
4. Add the virtual/logical channel number.
5. Rinse and repeat.

That is the best that I can offer at this time.
