Mapping multiple channels and GUI suggestion

Hi there,

I was referred by someone to ask you a couple of questions in regards to the GUI app you wrote. Firstly great job,

Question 1
I was wondering if it's possible to map more than one channel to the same channel

e.g. Seven Network -> 7 Digital | 7 HD
I do realise that oztivo does have HD data but it's often limited (not filled). Or is there another way of actually doing this?

Question 2

  • More like a suggestion, with regards to the gui when I first downloaded it I filled in my server settings and I clicked save I thought that was meant to save the settings but it would crash the applications caluse a fault with the .exe
  • Secondly after getting help from someone they told me I had to download the data, reset grid, map channels then download the data again. Unless you download the data the second time it appears the data won't show up in Mediaportal.
  • Thirdly I tried to use the tv guide that GetOzTvGuide uses: http://xmltv.locost7.info/Melbourne/OztivoMelbourne.zip, so I entered that url in the custom field. I noticed that it would download the zip, but there would be no channels to map, upon further investigation I noticed the XML file (tvguide.xml) had rubbish characters it wasn't in xml format.
  • Lastly perhaps you could make the gui have steps or check to ensure the above problems don't happen just to make it clearer for novice people how to use it.

You need to do 2 things.
1. Create a channel group in MediaPortal server configuration that contains only the channels that you want to share EPG data for.
2. In the guide downloader, go to the groups page, load all groups and select the groups that you want to share EPG data for (box on the left). If you map only one channel from a group, then EPG will be automatically created for all other channels in the group.

So for your example, you would need to create a group - say "Seven Network" - that contained both channels. Map the main 7 Digital channel on the channel mapping grid, and select the "Seven Network" group on the groups page in the box on the left.

I have not had a chance to look at the re-packaged ozTiVo data as yet, but I hope to in the next few days.

7 HD is only partly filled out because sometime the 7 HD program is different to 7 Digital program. Thus the program that is different is entered and the rest is left empty.

Just letting you know why.

Firstly, what a great piece of software, thumbs up.
And the question is: Is it possible to fill in empty slots for HD channels out of SD ones, preserving different HD contents?
I realise this will require two groups creation for the same network. Let's say for network 7 we need to have a group containing SD and HD channels. And a separate group for HD channel only to be evaluated first, before SD channels get filled in.

New Version 0.1.1.12

Hi All,

It has been a while... but here is a new version.

:sorry: Sorry but I have had absolutely no luck with the standard media portal problem.

New in this version:

I have replaced the jRobbo option with "locost7" which is the repackaged ozTiVo data. It works the same as jRobbo - just pick your city. You will need to reset your grid!!!

Sounds like a good idea, I will have to merge them programatically... I will need to set up some additional mapping information to allow for data merging.

Back to you soon

New Version 0.1.1.13

Hi All,

To those still using my little program...

I have added a new column to the "Channel Setup" page that allows you to specify a channel to merge data from.

This allows programs from channels in the "Merge With" column to fill gaps in the program guide from the main channel.

So for 7HD data from ozTiVo (or re-packaged version :D ), you can specify 7 Digital (SD) as the merge channel and fill the gaps in the 7HD programming (7HD does not have program data where it is the same as 7 SD).

If you want to try this, dont forget to uncheck any groupings for the seven network on the "Groups" page.

The channel list on the right of the "Channel Setup" page now has a "reload" button that will put all of the channel names in without having to reset the grid.

I have attached a screen shot of my setup for Seven HD to merge data.

Hi comrades!

I seem to be having some issues setting up "Oz TV Guide Downloader". I'm using the latest build (1.1.13) and using Media Portal 0.2.3 RC3 (with no additional SVN).

I think the problem is that I'm using Vista Ultimate as my OS.

My problem is that I can setup my guide data download from WikiTivo and download the data correctly but "Oz TV Guide Downloader" doesn't recognise that I have setup any channels in Media Portal. My column on the right "Media Portal Channel Names" remains empty even when I press the "Reload" button.

I have checked in Media Portal Config and the channels are all there. Is this a "Vista" thing?

I have also noted that I don't have an "XMLTV" folder in my Media Portal root directory. It seems buried in C:\Users\All Users\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal.

I loved this program as it got me sorted for guide data for Austar and Free to Air DTV when using Media Portal with XP.

Does anyone have any clever ideas?

Thanks in advance!!

Cheers,

Gordon (aka firebird)

Hi All,

I noticed that merging did not add programs immediately before and after in the merged EPG. I have made a small fix that seems to work correctly now.

Hi Gordon,

Are you using TV Server?

I still have not sorted out my issues with SQLite, so version 0.1.1.13 will only work for TV server.

As for Vista, I am running the downloader on Vista (business) myself and it seems to work OK.

I have built the main features of the downloader into my web interface for TV server if anyone wants to give that a try...
