Hi Ruud,
thanks a lot for your help in debuging.
I looked at your files and realized that the plugin .dll files did not get detected in your latest SVN.
The plugin settings did get correctly exported. Can you check if the latest SVN did change the path for the TV server plugins?
In your installation the plugins should be in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\Plugins
If the pathname was changed from Plugins to plugins or so it would explain everything.
Thanks, huha

Edit 21:45
I just tried to reproduce your issue with the latest SVN and a TV server only installation. I could not reproduce, the plugin settings got imported. The plugin path was where I expected it. I will be releasing later on a new version 0.0.0.3 with better logging and a new mechanism for detecting plugins. So this may fix your issue.

Edit 23:15 My new reply about the 0.0.0.3 version got automerged into my reply to Ruud
Comments about the new 0.0.0.3 Release:
Version 0.0.0.3 has a lot of enhancements in plausibility checks and functionality.
WebEPG is now fully supported together with xmltv. I have added a "copy all folders" functions for the User directories of Tv Server and Media Portal.

But there is one bad news. This version is not compatible with the previous version and you need to recreate your backups with this version before you import the settings. I have changed the backup folder directory structure as I was realizing that the old structure was becoming a mess.
The backup folder is now structured into MP_Program, MP_User, TV_Program and TV_user according to the program. This makes the maintenance of the plugin and also future extensions a lot easier for me.

I hope this was be the last major change of the plugin. Future work will be focused on your feedback and on adding more plugin settings. I am especially interested if someone else had issues with the plugin settings not being imported.

I used your (extremely helpful) tool to backup a recent SVN version. Importing it to a freshly installed preRC3 testversion, it worked just fine, EXCEPT for the plugin settings. They did not get imported. I used version 0.0.0.3.

Thank you for a very nice plugin. This will help testers like me a lot.

Seidelin, thanks a lot for feedback. It looks like you have the same issue as Ruud and version 0.0.0.3 did not fix it. Can you post the exported Tvsettings.xml file (I need the plugin section) as well as a log file which you are generating during import with the debug checkbox on? Can you also post the directory path of your (new) Tv server plugin folder?

    Edited 21:10.:
seidelin or ruud, can you install the debugplugin.dll in the tv server plugin directory and hit the button "DebugPlugin". Please post then the tvserver log file. Are you using xp or Vista? What is the plugin directory for your tv server plugins?

    Edited 23:20
no more need for postings - I am able to reproduce the issue with the latest SVN under XP. I am looking into it.
    I removed the DebugPlugin.dll

There is an initialization issue with XP for the plugin settings. This effects the first time use of backup settings after a new installation for both, import and export. There is a simple work around:
After a new installation close the TV Server configuration once before you use backup settings for the first time.
Then reopen the TV server configuration and the plugin settings should work now, too.
A new version of backup settings fixing this issue will follow soon.

Tried to use this to backup my settings before updating from 1.0 RC2 to RC3, but it didn't work for me.
The log doesn't tell me much, what can anyone else make of it?
The stuff about concurrency control is clear as mud to me.
What other process could need access? What does "another" mean? Does the plugin run in the TV Server process, or does it have its own?
Do I need to terminate the MP (client) process before attempting a backup?

What a fantastic tool! It meant I could upgrade to RC3 in less than 10 minutes - normally it takes me 30-45!

Only problem I've noticed so far is that my custom Satellite settings (in the Server/Tuning Paramaters folder) aren't maintained. But no drama, copying them manually is no problem.

I have found that the Weather plug-in is playing up, but not sure if thats due to the Backup settings, RC3 or my Internet connection. I still have to look into it a bit further first.

Thanks again for all your hard work!
    Jon.

I released V0.0.0.4 which hopefully fixes the issues described by Ruud and Seidelin. The plugin settings did not get imported or exported on xp when the plugin was used the first time after a new install. I recommend to all users another backup of your settings with this version to make sure the plugin settings got exported to your backup location, although this version is downwards compatible to 0.0.0.3.

rsbrux, I will look at your issue next. From the log it seems that an exception occured during the export of your radio channel groups. I will prepare a debug version to trace the exception. I may need to add a few more try exception handlings in my code.
Jedney, can you post the detailed path of your folders? Was it in the program or the user folder

    Hi,

Same exception here. I thought it might be the MPWebInterface, so I killed the process. Still the same.

    Hi rsbrux, dickerhund,
I would like to ask you to run the attached version 0.0.0.5. I hope it will not bring the exception, but will pop up a warning window "not all settings could get exported". Please post after the export the Tvsettings.xml file and the log file.

    Edit 20:15
I exchanged the version by 0.0.0.6 which should have complete exception handling of the export operation. If this fixes the issue i will officially release this version. I suspect that you have defined and modified previously a radio group definition and the old groups did not get deleted and are still available as garbage data in the data base. If this is true the new version should give you a warning message that some maps are not being exported. The warnings are not a problem as the old groups would not hurt. If you import with backupsettings the old groups would get deleted anyway before the import. I would appreciate if you could post me the .log file from the export and the exported .xml file so that i could verify if this suspicion is true.

One more comment to all: I will be out for 3 weeks starting on Monday, so i will not be able to work at my computer during that time. Please be patient in case of any new issues. I will follow up after my return.

    I just upgraded RC2 to RC3 using v0.0.0.6

-TVseries plugin, RSS, shoutcast(with favorites), My NRK, and everything else were imported perfectly !
there is one small problem - no recorded TV-shows appear. - files are there, and the path is the same.

Thank you - this is a great tool that is important for MP.
