Some of my channels, which are on UK DVB-T and DVB-T2 are not used during the day, as broadcasts begin at 7pm. During the daytime, if I view the channel via my TV I get a placeholder which is some text saying that the channel will begin broadcast at 7pm.

If I tune into the channel via MP, I get a total system freeze whilst MP tries to tune in to the channel. I have timed the freeze and it seems to last between 20 seconds and 40 seconds, during that time MP is completely unresponsive, and family members complain that it's 'crashed'. Eventually it will display the dialog that 'no audio/video is detected'.

Is this intended behaviour? If so is there a way to improve it?

I guess if it were able to tune into the placeholder text that would be ideal, if not is there a way to make the delay shorter, say about 10 seconds?

    Hello Lisa

This is a known issue, fixed in TVE 3.5.

I wouldn't say it is intended - MP just doesn't support non-24 hour channels. You can reduce the delay by reducing the PMT timeout:

3 or even 2 seconds should be safe for most people.

I guess if it were able to tune into the placeholder text that would be ideal, if not is there a way to make the delay shorter, say about 10 seconds?
As above for reducing the delay. 3 => delay of 6 seconds; 2 => 4 seconds. I don't know how the placeholder is broadcast, but it is a possibility if that could be worked out.

Ah, I just tried changing the PMT from 10 to 5, and then to 3 but it had no effect on this behaviour.

I did start and stop the TV Service, and even rebooted, just to be sure.

Are you 100% sure the setting change was saved? If so, please can you post your TV Server log files and I'll take a look.

    Thanks, that works (y)

The delay is around 15 seconds now, which is much better.

@mm - what's different in tve3.5 out of interest? Does it handle channels which don't broadcast 24x7?
