Best approach to map channels (3 Viewers)

I finally got all of my tuners added (hdhomerun, adaptec dual analog tuner, HD-PVR) added and functioning. Since I am in North America, I signed in to Schedules Direct, created and account and created a lineup that includes all of the stations I have available by my cable service. I ordered the tuners in the correct priority as to which tuners to use first (hdhomerun first and second, hd-pvr third and Adaptec forth and fifth). I installed the schedules direct plugin and it seems to be working correctly.

When I scanned in the channels on the Adaptec, the channel is only has a number, no call letters. On the HD-PVR, the channels all have a number and call letters. I believe that is coming straight from schedules direct. The HD-HomeRun channels are all Unknown.... but by previewing the channels I can identify which channels are which.

I guess the question I have is how to I label the stations that are identified on the Adaptec and HDHomeRun tuners so that the guid information is correct?

I went through the channels and combined up channels that were similar but I am not sure that was the best approach. One early post seemed in indicate that set up ScheduleDirect first then scan for channels on the individual tuners. The supposidly made sure the channels were correctly assigned(?)

Made another pass at it tonight. Deleted all of the channels. disabled the HDPVR. Restarted the TV Server. Enabled the HD-PVR. all of the channels were downloaded from SchedulesDirect. 270 channels in all. So far so good.

Now. I scanned in the channels on the Adaptec dual analog tuners. In thsi case there are < 100 stations. Those channels only show up as numbers. How do I associate them when the channels in the guide? I tried combining the channels with the channels that were associated with the HD-PVR. That seemed to work but I am not sure if that is the correct approach.

The HDHomeRun channels show up after scanning as Unknown...... I can easily idetify which channels are involved but as with the Adaptec tuners how do I associate them with a specific channel in Schedules Direct?

I am so close I can taste it.

    Hi again Ian

I think you just have to make the names match. Try renaming the "Unknown xxx" and analog channels to match the names of the channels supplied by SchedulesDirect. Would be interested to know how you get on with this as a fair few people seem to struggle when it comes to this part...

I think I am on the correct track now. I set Schedules Direct to match by number and the adaptec tuners dropped into line. I hope to do the HDHomeRun now. I "think" that setting the Unknown... channels to the correct number (and for good measure the call letters) "should" work. I will update the status later..

After several tries yesterday, I got all but my HDHomeRuns associated with the schedules direct guide.

With the HDHomeRun the channels scanned is as Unknown...... I located the channels I was interested ina dn renamed them using the same format as was coming across from SchedulesDirect, for instance,

    960 WSAWDT

I tried stopping and restarting the TVService but for some reason, the guide information is not associated with the HDHomeRun.

I guess I am looking for what to try next.

Did you ever figure this out?

All my my HDHR channels are "unknown" even those in the HDHR setup tool I have put in the correct channel callsigns (that match the schedules direct signs)

Do the HDHR setup tool names not get carried over to MP?

    Unfortuantely No.

I renamed all of the "Unknown" channels on the HDHomeRun to names that appear to be identical to those in the channel guide but they still don't have the guide information associated with them.

I suppose I could force the issue and map them to a matching channel in TVServer but I like keeping the channels separate so I can control where the recording is made.

Not a problem. Continue to appreciate your assistance. I had to put my effort to get Media Portal up and running on hold till a few days ago. Really need another computer so I can try things out without interferring with the rest of the family's enjoyment of the TV <grin>

I have the HD-PVR working fine and the program guide seesm to be correct. I haven't done many tests with the Adaptec tuners but I believe they are also correct wrt the program guide. I was also able to get the IRSS server up and running so I can blast the stb for the HDPVR. It seems to work but it may interfere with EventGhost so I still have more work to do there.

The key problem right now seems to be the HDHomeRun tuners. When you scan those tuners, the channels come up as Unknown... If you preview each one of them, you can identify the correct channel. I tried renaming them to match the channel call letters for the other channels but that is not sufficient to get it correctly associated with the channel guide info.

I am doing something wrong here but I am not sure what. At this point, I haven't mapped/combined up identical channels. Didn't want that added complication.

    Take Care

Understood. Let's hope we hear from Geoff as I'd dearly like to know the answer too.

Having to rename like that must be infuriating. People from your part of the world have reported this issue several times but I can never seem to get a straight answer about how the channels are meant to be named. For an NZer such as myself, the naming patterns used for ATSC and QAM are very confusing. Is there any chance that you could clarify what you'd expect for each. I've made some comments about the information that we have available -->here<--.
