Ok, i understand. With the 780G chipset you can use VA deinterlacing for SD only! The onboard graphic is to slow for interlaced HD content.

The only way is to buy a HD3450 card and use this in crossfire mode. Or even a HT3.0 CPU.

    Bye,
    Nico

No worries, its a very minor difference if anything at all from what i can see sitting 3 metres away.

I wonder if i use the automatic deinterlacing setting will CCC be smart enough to use VA for SD and motion adaptive for HD? And if so how would i know! Ah the many joys of HTPC tinkering :)

I bought a new Asus EN8500GT SILENT MAGIC/HTP/512M,512MB, DDR2, PCI Express x16 card to solve my issues, with my picture quality amd i've hit the JACKPOT. :)

My TV is a Philips 32pf5331 LCD TV. This has a native resolution of 1366x768@50/60Hz (PAL=50Hz). So if you can have this resolution, than you have 1:1 pixelmapping and superb picture quality.

But in the EDID of the LCD the best resolution is 1280x768@50Hz.

The great thing about the nvidia driver is that you can add a custom resolution, I will explain how:

    Goto "manage custom resolutions".
    Add a custom resolution.

Horizontal desktop pixels 1366, Vertical desktop pixels 768, GDI Refresh Rate 50
Then select "manual" (now you can disable Interlaced), select Timing standard Auto and try if it works, if not try another timing.

Next I enabled v-sync (always on) and deinterlace best in mediaportal and powerDVD 7 or 8.

Finished, I now have superb picture quality on my HD ready LCD TV.
Also with fast picture changes, it works superb.
I don't know if other hd ready TVs can also be set like this, but you might just have an old nvidia card and try it before you but a new one.

I think if you have a full HD it makes no difference ati or nvidia, this 1920x1080p, which is in the EDID of any full HD screen.
    Hopes this helps others.

Unfortunately, even though my TV is a 1366, every timing change in that custom resolution, is out of range.

The only thing I can change is refresh rate it seems.

Are you running 32 bits per pixel?

Yes, I am running 32 bits per pixel.

I see I made a mistake above, I'm saying to enable progressive, but should be disable Interlaced.
    (I changed it now)
This can be done, by pressing manual first.

    Good luck.

I tried every combination with every timing mode.

Manual though, too many options to change. But I did try Manual with Interlacing, on and off.

Could be a TV issue though, it's a Samsung 40" LCD.

I have the exact card, and i cant get 50hz. The TV can take 50hz @ 720p but everything is blurred and washed out with overscan. I can run at 1360x768 (auto detected) @ 60hz but not 1366. Any ideas on the timing standards? tried each one of them previously and no luck.

Yes, I read about the Phenoms. But I wouldnt buy the topnotch edition (x4??), maybe an x3 (e.g. AMD Phenom X3 8450 / 2.1 GHz) for 86€. This should be enough.
But I planned to wait until the 45W TDP phenoms are released in January. Just wanted to check if there are any possibilities to optimize it a bit without a new cpu.

Just a sidenote. It's 45nm not 45W (I take it you're talking about those since you say January).

Anyways the numbers for TDP are 55-75W depending on the speed.

Select manual and turn of interlacing.
Now the interlaced field can be enabled / disabled (isn't greyed out any more).
So disable interlace and then select auto (or an other one).
This way you have disabled interlace with auto timings.

    Hope this helps.

Did you try to add a custom resolution?
This way you can select the frequency you need.

    Hi Doornjoostje,,

Nice to hear. A few questions due to your new 8500GT:

    - Is the flickering problem solved when watching 50FPS content and for example when you look in the EPG?
    - Can you now watch 1080i channels without stuttering / dropping frames (I see you also live in Hengelo - so I assume you've got Ziggo as DVB-C provider)
    - Does the card has HDMI output?

    Cheers,
    Frank
