Black screen when timeshifting (1 Viewer)

Problem: When i turn on timeshifting the TV screen goes black plus no audio. Turn off timeshifting and TV comes back as normal. Obviously also get a black screen and no audio when recording HOWEVER the saved recording plays back fine!

I've checked the forum for this problem and tried whatever people had suggested (delete 'Card1' folder from under 'My Recordings', disable 'Use Exclusive DirectX..' setting) but these don't cure it. The threads also seem to end suddenly with no clear solution.

I should mention that when i first installed MP the problem existed, then one day it suddenly worked, then i must've done something (not sure what) because it soon stopped working. The fact that it did once work is encouraging.

What i'd really like is a list of possible causes and things to try. I am a little reluctant to do a clean install of MP as after much tinkering i now have the TV working perfectly(ish). Would do this as a last resort though.

Any help appreciated...

Oh my. I thought I was the only one with the Blank screen when timeshifting.
I'm like you, I don't want to do the clean install thing because it a pain in the back side.
i'm going try using the svn's in hope that one of them will fix the problem. Till then I'm gonna disable the tv function.

@kevon: Please fill out your system specs in the User CP. Otherwise there will be no help.

@problem: The PVR 150 should work. Please attach MP logs when trying to timeshift.

Problem exists with the MPV and MPA codecs. Plus i also get major video/audio sync problems when i use these.

Ok- here's a dump of the log file. Sequence of events as follows:

1\ Start MediaPortal
2\ Go to My TV (TV = ON, Timeshifting = OFF)
3\ Switch on timeshifting (=black screen + loss of audio)
4\ Switch off timeshifting (= picture and sound back!)
5\ Go to My Pictures
6\ Minimise MediaPortal to the tray
7\ Close down MediaPortal

Note: steps 5-7 are just so i can shut down MP (i can't minimise MP whilst in My TV for some reason).

I think the line "Failed to open C:\..." is a dead give away, however i've tried deleting the Card 1 folder and reset the path in MP Setup but it doesn't fix it.

Any ideas?

Hi,

you can try to set the recording folder to somewhere else:
Configure->Television->Capture Cards->Edit->Recording->Path

Just a first try. Will have to dig deeper into the log and search for older posts, afaik this was mentioned before, but I do not fully remember.

Just a quick update. A previous post i found on this problem seemed to be related to that person's firewall (ZoneAlarm). I too have ZoneAlarm so tried timeshifting with ZA shutdown - doesn't fix the problem.

Have yet to finish investigating file permissions and setting up different recording folders as per Flip's post above. I have a sneaky feeling that my XP is not starting up into the Administrator account as intended.
