Blue Screen Of Death (1 Viewer)

I've been using my HTPC and MP for about 2 years now, no problems until recently.

I took out my TV Tuner and put it in another machine, my HTPC worked fine. I moved it back in and now the system occasionally blue screens with MP running.

I've reinstalled MP and i've also tried different codecs.

I think it is possibly a dodgy codec but i'm not sure, i've uninstalled all my codec packs and i'm now just using the standard ones like DivX and Dscaler etc and it still happens, tho sometimes it takes a while on the default codecs.


The BSOD displays the STOP CODE:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Using latest drivers, nothings been changed besides putting the TV Tuner back in which worked fine before and in previous machine. Tried googling and looking on here but can't find any info

Did you put back the tv tuner in the same slot?

If yes, uninstall your tv tuner completely and install it again (maybe MP again too)

The easy way is to reinstall your system

Have to agree, sounds like part of the old driver is in conflict, above should sort it out, hopefully not a reformat, but you may get away with a system restore.

It could be also some static eletricity that has damaged some HW component. You could check the memory with some diagnostic tool.

The TV Tuner is in the same PCI slot it was originally in. I will try a uninstall/reinstall of all the tuners drivers and reinstall it in MP.

When i watch TV with the software that came with the TV Tuner, no crashes happen only in MP. its bizarre. But i'll try what you've said

I've just realised i've posted this under TV Server and not Media Portal 1 oops lol

Anywho, i'm making progress. I've uninstalled the tv tuner, media portal and all codecs. I've then removed the tv tuner, started up machine, shut down and reinstalled it again. Then i've installed MP again along with NVIDIA PureVideo codecs. I've set MP to use the NVIDIA codecs only and so far it seems to be running stable.... fingers crossed



***UPDATE***

It crashed again, so i took a stick of RAM out and moved the other sick 3 slots over. So far hasn't crashed, been on for an hour. Will put the other stick in and hope for the best.

Its still crashing.... Usually when watching TV or even more frequently when playing back recorded TV. Its really bizarre. I think the TV Tuner is causing problems because it was fine before i put the TV Tuner in. I'll buy a new one me thinks

Chances are its windows that's screwed, and the only way of fixing is format and reinstall, it really does not like internal hardware being removed and re-added, found that out a long time ago, and it still applies to vista now
