I have just installed the RC1 Media Portal/TV Server on my HTPC. The server and client both run on my HTPC (as that is where the card is). I have a DNTV Live dual hybrid card and running Windows MCE. I have also applied the DVB patch.

After installation, I configured buth digiital tuners on the card and the FM radio on the analogue card. I did a few tests and everything seemed to be running fine and I was really impressed. I started recording a show on one of the tuners and watching a show on the other tuner. After about 5 minutes a BSOD flashed up real quick then the PC restarted. This is the first BSOD I have seen in a while.

Anyway, once the machine restarted I loaded MP up again and tested the radio... That was fine. Then I went to enter into the TV again and as soon as the TV screen loads.... BSOD and restart!

My hardware is fine as the card works perfectly in other apps. I have re-installed card drivers with no change.

I don't have any logs at the moment as I am at work. Later, when my girlfriend gets up at home and switches on the HTPC I will VNC into it and get the logs.

Any ideas what could be the issue? It all looked so promising and I was really excited until this happened. :(

These symptoms are way too familiar to me. What hw are you using? my thread

Just updated my profile with system specs.... What you describe in your post sounds exactly like what is happening to me. The radio tuner works fine and the TV tuners work fine in other software. I have MP configured to start TV when I enter the module so as soon as I enter the module and the first frame is displayed in the prev window that's when the BSOD shows its ugly face and the PC kicks itself in the teeth.

Attached are the full logs and here is the last bit of the MP log.... Nothing I see strikes me as being fatal to my HTPC...

I can't see anything wrong in your MP log, but it's worth pointing out that if you have MCe then you don't need the multi-tuner patch. I doubt that would be causing your issues though.

Also, is there enough room in the directory for your recording and timeshifting?

And last, can you tell the error the BSOD gives? Is it IRQ_Not_Less_or_equal or something like that? The error will give some more clues.

I'm just about to knock off from work where I will be able to look more indepth into this. It happened lastnight just after midnight when I went to do my very last test.

The BSOD screen just flashes up for half a sec then the machine restarts. When windows loads again there is a "The system has recovered from a serious error" dialog box that says what file caused the crash which I will post when I get home.

My HTPC is dedicated to the lounge and is a HTPC/Games machine only. I have a partitioned drive with 8GB free on the system C:\ partition and about 280GB free on my D:\ partition where all recording is done so there is plenty of space.

The fact that it all seemed to work at a point has me thinking that perhaps there is a setting that has caused this issue. I might try and install the database on my server instead of on my HTPC? Is it even worth trying? My card is in my HTPC so theres no need for a server based database.

If anyone has any other suggestions for what I can do/try then please let me know so I can get onto it.

Attached is a screen shot of a message from MP....

I disabled the auto-tv on feature and when I enter the TV menu I get the attached message... What causes this. The database that was installed is installed on the same machine (Called MGEEHTPC) and the tv config application works and shows my cards... What has happened to MP to loose the connection?

to see the message on the BSOD, go to system/advanced/startup and recovery and turn off automatically restart.
Then you should see the BSOD for longer. You can turn it back on after you see what the message is.

    OK, good to know....

There has been some progress on this now and without getting too confident without a longer test, it all appears to be working ok now...

After I got the posted message I decided to un-install EVERYTHING and start it from scratch (Media Portal).

Instead of choosing the "one click" install, I choose to install with options. I chose to install MYSQL rather than the MS one and then set about setting up my tuners.

Once complete everything just seemed to work. I watched TV for several hours lastnight and even started a test recordiing and everything did as was expected without killing my machine.

One thing was though the radio. Was working but then later when I tried it just said something like "cannot timeshift" and wouldn't play a station???

Is there any way to prevent auto-timeshift on a particular tuner or just for radio. I don't need/want timeshift on radio but I like the auto timeshift feature for TV
