Hi CHBMB I have sent you a message with details
You don't have to PM. We're not afraid of a little competition - it is healthy. :)
I might also say that I'm a little disappointed you didn't ask for further help, but ultimately I respect your decision. :)

@CHBMB I would also say to you that if you're struggling now then start a thread and post your logs. Don't feel that our support policy prevents you from doing that. We have a community here that is willing to help even when the team cannot commit to it. As fitzy75 already said, other people in the community (and in the team I might add) already have this or similar setups working.

@Benoire do you think you could offer any advice? :)

A bit of background, I run an ESXi 5.5 hypervisor with a Server 2012 R2 as ADDC and this is where TVserver sits. I have it all running fine, the only issue everynow and then is that the configuration executable sometimes won't load so I have to execute it a number of times before it will finally show.
Does TVServer start as a service on each reboot of 2008? I have had to set the TVService Service to restart on all errors as that gets over the occasional hiccup server has when loading this service, especially if mySQL hasn't loaded in to memory yet.
I presume your server 2008 R2 is running an Active Directory and that the 127.0.0.1 is setup as the DNS server? It may pay to check the event viewer to see what is happening on termination of the config file.

To be honest, once the BDA drivers are installed (as you have done), most of the modern server os's act in a similar manner to the desktop equivalents, but they're focused on background tasks and they generally perform better when running in a domain.

Some initial thoughts for now, but I'd be interested to know what the event logs say.

I would be interested to continue debugging but I didn't want to take your time too much, I much prefer MP TV server over any other product as it's what I am used to on a previous system running Win7 so I'm happy to revisit it if you like, I just wasn't aware you were so eager to help with something that's clearly stated as unsupported, never met a software maker so happy to try and get it working before :) I shall continue :D

My OS is actually Storage Server 2008 R2 which is pretty much identical to WHS 2011 (and I possibly believe as a partly media-orientated OS it may have already had BDA stuff built-in as many of the files I added already existed, although I did overwrite them to be sure) I believe but with fewer restrictions and aimed at small businesses rather than home users. I've played about with a full domain setup before at home but have been trying to simplify things and consolidate everything into as fewer boxes and low-cost-low-energy hardware as possible due to current financial constraints, plus I like the simplified dashboard and backup solution for client pcs built into Storage Server which is very useful.

I will reinstall it shortly and continue where I left off :)

P.s. I also recently lost half of my ram which I found to be the cause of a bunch of blue screens so I'm limited with virtualization on 4GB too lol, I swear everything electronic in our house has died at least once in the last year...nightmare

I am more than happy to try and help assist the situation, do not worry about taking my time... I do this for fun!

I think your first call is the event logs then, have a look at what they're saying once you have tried to run the TVserver configuration... Also, unless you have a particular reason try using the latest TVServer which is included in the 1.6 setup.

I was only going by the official XBMC forums which suggested a certain version which was compatible and I wanted to get it right first time to avoid any potential issues, I would have considered my choice of OS if I hadn't already got it all setup how I wanted it before realising MP could be problematic on servers.

I loved the MP client too but my current client hardware choices restrict me to low-requirement linux-based apps (XBMC(OpenElec) was the winner in that category) so I'll see if I can find any compatibility info for 1.6 with XBMC and let you know

...heck I'll install it and try it, nothing to lose :)

    Fitzy,

I like you tried WHS2011 after a failed ESXI experiment. I think everything would have worked had I not given up on it too soon. What clients are you using?

The reason I ask, is that I am using DCCP847DYE NUC which are low power Intel Celeron 847 processors. I am using those running W7 x64 Enterprise, 4gb ram, 32gb ssd. Total investment about $320 and they run MePo great. I am using LAV filters and stream 1080p blurays with no problems.

I'll do some digging around the Storage Server line of OS's, see if there is anthing that might cause some trouble.

ESXi actually works, but you need a passthrough capable motherboard and set a particular command line for each pci device pass through to the appropriate VM...

Anyway, we know that WHS2011 and the later server os's do work it might be a config issue that needs to be worked through. Post logs and any errors and we'll go from there.

I'm running some HP Thin Clients for my setup, I can't remember the exact model but they look like this, they've got something like an Atom 1.6 CPU, onboard graphics of some kind, 2GB RAM and a 4GB mini-IDE SSD built in, not the best out there but they are low powered and run from a standard laptop power brick, are fairly small, and I was given them by a company I work for so didn't cost me anything and fit the job pretty well when coupled with an USB MCE remote receiver. I installed OpenElec which gave astounding performance considering the specs, I can stream a 1080p MKV over the network no problem with no lag or stuttering, and they screw nicely to the back of my TVs to keep it all tidy. I would love to use MP on them but the SSDs are too small to get even Windows on there let alone anything else, and I'm too frugal to spend any money upgrading them lol.

I've installed MP 1.6 on the server, have had much better success this time, the config panel opens first time and I can start to scan for channels but about half way through the scan it seems to trigger a BSOD related to acpi.sys (according to WhoCrashed), have been able to replicate this 3 times so far - getting the BSOD about 3 minutes into the channel scan on DVB-S. Logs to follow shortly....

To save the double post I've attached the logs here along with the related Windows Minidump if that is of any use. Have checked the windows event logs and nothing there except related to MP, only to the BSOD.

Sorry not been on here for a while, not struggling yet as I'm still in the process of migrating from Unraid to a WHS 2011 setup and transparent FlexRaid. The TV server will be the last thing I setup and I'll try and tackle it in the next few days.
