I live in Anchorage, AK so my local cable provider is GCI. They don't appear to be encrypting anything as I can tune and record from all channels using an InfiniTV 4 on my MythBuntu box running MythTV 0.26.

I just added an InfiniTV 4 to my Windows 8 Pro x64 workstation to play with and see if I could find some software to run under Windows that's a bit more powerful than Media Center. To that end, with the new uPnP developement, if you need someone to help test along the way I'm here to help.

I'm brand new to MediaPortal and am still working through getting it running properly on WHS2011 and handling two HDHomeRun Prime (CableCard) devices. I installed the TV4Home add-in but that didn't get me a version of MediaPortal which can handle CableCard. Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

Well you're in the right thread at least. Read very carefully the first post for the instructions to do after getting the initial install of MP 1.3 completed. Then, refer to This Post for more information, specifically the version of the files needed for using cablecards in 1.3 Final.

I've read that first post several times but I'm not sure how it applies. It appears to relate to Windows 7 or Windows 8, but only 32 bit. WHS2011 is 64 bit only. Can I install MediaPortal 1.3 and the CableCard patch on WHS2011? If so, should I first uninstall the TV4Home? I'm not going to even attempt an installation on an HTPC until I have the server running properly.

Forgive me, I was not aware the Windows Home Server 2001 was x64 only. In that case, no we have not yet been able to correctly unlock the tuners in x64 mode, though work on that end continues. There was a mention of a registry hack someone on another thread found that did something, but I'm not sure to what end that did anything. So, as it stands, is there a solution for x64 setups? Not yet.

Unlike the earlier WHS v, WHS2011 is based on Windows Server 2008 R2 and from what I can find out that is x64 only.

As soon as an add-in for WHS2011 that handles CableCard is ready, I'll be more than happy to test it.

Update: It looks like we overcame some of the bigger hurdles this week. The weekend will tell us more, but things are looking up and a lot of progress has been made!

    Hello everyone

This is just a quick note to say that I'm Lyfesaver's "friend". I've stepped back from the forums, but still working hard behind the scenes. My only project at the moment is this one - UPnP and 64 bit support for CableCARD tuners - and I've been working on this solidly for the last three weeks or so.
Progress is good as @Lyfesaver74 has said. We have device detection working really well, are able to send commands to the tuner, and I think we almost have tuning working. Currently testing with a Ceton InfiniTV 4 PCIe.
I'll think about putting out a test build in the next week, depending on progress. If we do that, it will only be to make sure that the device detection also works for Primes and DCR-2650s. No promises in case we hit an unexpected speed bump... but fingers crossed (if you believe in that sort of thing :)).

I will volunteer my time and money for testing/debugging once mm (the developer) returns. I am tired of paying my cable company hundreds a year to 'rent' their hardware when a cableCARD only costs 2$/month.

If mm1352000 returns with further progress I will donate 100$ to him for his hard work. Just a simple "hello, i'm alive and well" from him and i'll gladly donate 20$.
I'm definitely alive and kicking, though I did take a break over the early part of the year as I was really stressed and running on empty. Right now I'm back and working hard on this thing! :)
I don't accept donations personally as this project is a team effort. However, as I said in the first post the team really appreciate donations of any size and variety (money, time, resources, business contacts, encouragement... you name it). If you appreciate my work then I'd kindly ask you to consider donating to the project -->here<--. I'm pretty sure we could convince the team to add a Prime to our test server if y'all were to pitch in. ;)

    Talk again soon,
    mm
