Cool! While I have you listening, should tv server produce thumbnails for recordings? Or will it never do that?

Apart from the daylightsaving issue and this issue just mentioned (simple fix was to refresh EPG). I've never had any issues. Compared to when I used to use xmltvnz that had an issue every other day when some webpage would change etc; maybe it's better now but really DVB grabbing is pretty good I reckon.

Also MP seems to keep forgetting my series recording schedule
What rev are you running? It looks like this may have been fixed @18682:
18682: fixing mantis bug 1209: Record every day: schedule gets deleted

Hi, I've got my system up and running now and am at the fine tuning stage. A couple of issues:

    1. Fast forward / rewind works nicely on DVDs. (i.e. smooth image at various speeds) But on recorded TV the image just freezes. If I then press play it has indeed moved forward to a different part of the programme. I would have expected the same behaviour as DVDs.

    2. When I manually delete a recorded programme after watching it, the XML document is deleted from the Recorded TV folder but the programme file is still there. Should it delete at the same time or does MP do a periodic cleanup of these files? (My preference is to delete things manually when I've viewed them rather than using the plug-ins and their associated rules)

    Thanks for any help.

I haven't got an answer to either of your questions but once you've got them sorted I highly recommend installing Comskip - it's fantastic! Saves skipping forwards (and then backwards!) through commercial breaks - one click of the button and you've skipped the ads - love it! :)

I'm trying to get mine to skip but can't work out which button to press to skip the ads.. it creates the xml ok (and skips automaticaly under myvideos) but i can't get it to skip under recorded tv :/

Also re the epg, I'm not at home at the moment so can't try it but can I refresh the epg from within MP or do I have to go to tvserver config? I'll check which build i'm running for the deleted schedule. Cheers for the help.

Aha, I'm running 18123.. that could be it!

Oh hold on, thats beyond the current svn build. Excuse my ignorance, how do I get hold of that build? (18682)

Thanks for the tip. I haven't investigated this one yet. How does it work? Does it delete ads during recording or just skip them at the press of a remote key during playback? Is it reliable?:D

It scans the recording and using various parameters (of which you can set up to a great degree of accuracy if you desire) it marks where it believes adverts to be and, similar to a DVD type structure, it creates markers like chapters so you can skip a chapter which will be full of adverts.

The biggest problem people seem to be having is mapping a key on their remotes to a DVD chapter skip function.

It's great when it works, but is incredibly annoying when it doesn't because you know that it can work and is very handy to have.

I guess it depends on your remote - I just click "skip" on my MCE remote :D - which is the "Next Chapter" button..

    @ DrMopar, Re:Comskip

I find it very reliable - it doesn't alter the show at all just uses an XML file to "mark" where the commercials end (as I understand it!). I have it set to run in the background as soon as a programme has finished recording. You can have another programme run after Comskip has finished which will actually delete the commercials but since Comskip isn't 100% accurate I'm not tempted to do that! Every now and then I get a show which Comskip hasn't worked on too well and I have to FF/RW the ads but it's very rare :) It's one of the best add-ons I've come across - that and the addictive "hexagon" game

(Edit: Phansen must have been typing a reply at the same time as I was..)

..can I refresh the epg from within MP or do I have to go to tvserver config? ..

Open TVServer, Click "Manual" -> "Refresh EPG" - wait until the "refreshing EPG" message disappears (takes a few minutes) then restart MP - should be good..

Shame, for me grabbing the epg off the bird is so simple and I like not having to rely on someone who will most likely receive a cease and desist at some point..

anyway, maybe time to go look at importing xml again then.

yep... last week I moved house so had to go DVB-T. Not having EPG data is so frustrating! Xmltvnz isnt working for me for some reason.

Is there anyway to convert dvb-s epg data to tvguide.xml then upload to an ftp or private location? or perhaps dvb-s epg can be imported into MP directly if I could get someone to export it for me once a week?
