If you have a DVB-S card AND an analog card with sky, this is what you can do for guide data in tve3

Use the freeview card to scan all the dvb-s channels, and DONT DELETE the encrypted ones.

Add analog channels with the same NAME as the dvb-s ones, then combine these channels (menu option in tve3) with the dvb-s.

Assign all the channels to both cards and ensure that each channel is only showing up once in the 'all channels' tab, and also on the epg grabber section.

Refresh the guide data, and set your analog card to have a higher priority.

When you go into MP, you will see all the guide data for all the channels, and when you select a channel it will tune to it using the analog card since it has a higher priority.

This is what i am doing anyway, and it seems to be going ok. The only problem I have is that when I try to record a Sky Channel, it is often trying to use the DVB-S card, and obviously just recording a black (encrypted data i assume?) screen. Really need to be able to specify which card to use for recording on a PER CHANNEL basis.

If recording channel 1, 2, 3, 4 I want it to use the Freeview card, and it does - but if I record from any other channel, I want it to use the Analog card and PREVENT it from changing channel.

Thanks shacknasty, that explains it quiet clearly and I will give that a go. It did not occur to me to create a second analogue channel with the same name as the DVB-S channel and combine them, but on reflection I am sure that is what mcraenz was explaining to me but the penny did not drop. Its all becoming clear now.

You are correct, it would be much easier if the properties page for each Channel in TVE3 allowed for the specification of multiple paths for the recording i.e. DVB-S card, Analogue card or av input and a priority for each one. Then you would have the best of everything.

No problem.. I am using media portal 90% of the time now, but there are a couple of shows that I MUST get decent recordings of each week, so actually close the tv server and use the dvb-s app that came with my card. Its a pity that I cannot yet trust MP 100% with important tasks - im sure the day will come tho! I DO use the scheduler in MP for pretty much everything else (other than Outrageous Fortune ).

Media Portal is great, but I still keep my tivo in position under the TV, just in case

In TV3 the idea is to have 1 instance of each channel but from multiple sources so. To get EPG from sky DVB-S but without using DVB-S to view SKY you need to do the following:

1. Setup all your sky channels on the analog card and setup all the blasting so when you select a sky channel it will display the s-video input and it will blast the command to the STB. I think this is where you're at now right?

2.Add the Sky transponders to your DVB-S tuningparameters and scan in all the sky channels.

3.Delete any of the channels that you don't actually have. remember you can't view these channels they use encryption that only the sky stb can decode.

Now I can't remember if channels with the same name automatically combine. If not then you will now have to sets of channels 1 set of analog PVR-150 channels and 1 set of DVB-S digital (encrypted) channels.

4.Go to the combinations node and select your analog card on the left side click the first sky channel and on the right side click the same channel from the other card it should be red coz it's encrypted.

These channels are now 1 and the same.
Do the same for the rest.

4. Now comes the important part. Under the top node "TV Servers" select the node that is the name of your server. in the right hand pane you'll see your cards listed make sure the PVR-150 is at the top (highest priority).

If the dvb-s card is at the top then when you select a sky channel, say discovery TV3 will look at the tuning details it has for discovery and will say "Well I can get this channel on both DVB-S AND on Analog"; it will then examine the card priority and pick the dvb-s card. you will promptly get a message saying "Channels is scrambled" and you won't be able to view the channel.

Thanks Guys, I now have it sussed. The trick was to combine in the correct sequence i.e. create the analogue channel with the same name as the DVB-S channel and combine the analogue into the DVB-S channel. Now when I select the channel from the main TVE3 channels page and open the properties dialogue, I can select two of the tabs i.e. Analogue and DVB-S (which I could not do before). Then (thanks mcraenz) set the DVB-S card to be at the bottom of the list i.e. with the lowest priority and the PVR150 with a higher priority number and it works as expected. When I select the SKY channel in it displays the analogue's input. Perfect.

This has been bugging me for about three weeks so I am really happy to get it finally sorted - many thanks to you both.

its actually quite easy.

create a new channel with the same name as the dvb-s channel, select dont show in guide and svhs and use the STB channel number - lets use MTV for an example
goto mapping and map your new MTV to the pvr150 (it will be green as it is unencrypted and I think it should be at the bottom)
goto combine select pvr150 in the dropdown and highlight the MTV channel - MTV with 100% will show on the right, highlight and click combine.
goto mapping select dvb-s card in the dropdown and unmap MTV

thats it. in channels it will show MTV as analog but sourced from skytv.

Thanks Geekie, yes it now works great and as mcraenz says - long live EPG without the need for extra tools (as good as those tools were).

PS A quick question on your advice to unmap the MTV (in your example) from the DVB-S card, will that not stop the EPG from being gathered. I thought we were leaving it mapped to the DVB-S card for EPG gathering but relying on the priority order of the DVB-S card being lower to avoid MP selecting the DVB-S card when MTV is selected but going for the higher priority PVR150 card.

I think it relies more on the channel source - in this case skytv - for its EPG, I dont think it cares if it is mapped to the DVB-S or not. I tested this with one channel - Alt TV - and it still pulled down guide data. I will be able to tell for sure after work today as all of the channels should have refreshed.

I have a 1M dish with 2 LNBs B3 D1, (thanks mcraenz for your rite up and I will also have a go at getting SKY EPG working)


I have a frend how is using a Huupager HVR3000 in Vista. The system locks up if you pause or time shift.
