A few people have asked about aiming their dishes correctly and i saw this neat site on the 'web today and thought i'd share.

It uses Google maps to give you a visual on where you need to point your dish for various satellites.

Thanks for this info; I'll add it to my favorites.

This website is also very useful if people are trying to tune in the analogue channels within Media Portal Lincrad Aerials

Hi, I've had a skystar2 running freeview for a while now and decided to add another that I got cheap off TM.

My problem lies in that the TV Server is apparently unable to see the second card.

I have removed and re installed my SQL server ( probably unnecessary but wanted a clean slate) and TV server and reinstalled the SVN version I have that I know works ( although cant verify dual card setup with it).

After reinstalling still no go. I could update the SVN but it appears that there are issues with the more recent builds, is this actually the case??

I have had a cursory search of this forum and it seems dual SKyStar2's are well supported by TV server. Is there anything simple that I might be missing.

I installed the card, installed drivers, which are the same as the existing card so I know they work. Do I need to install more upto date drivers from Technisat? I've seen BDN?? drivers or some thing like that are they neccessary?

Both cards are recognised by the system, I can see them in hardware manager and asssigned IP's within my internal network. I can see these IP's when selecting a streaming IP address within TV server but just cant see two cards only one.

Lots of questions I know but I'm hoping I'm doing something simple wrong or have forgotten something. Will continue to fiddle, perhaps upgrade SVN's. Any help appreciated.

    Cheers

Yes! Install the BDA driver, I've never run 2 SS2 cards, there is a least 1 NZer here who has 2 can't remember who now. I don't know if you can run the the BDA driver for both cards (this would be ideal) otherwise use the standard WDM for 1 and BDA for the other. The BDA is in a sub directory in the latest ss2 driver zip from technisat.

Cheers, will let you know how I get on.

Additionally have you heard anything about DVB-S being discontinued in the future ( years away) in favour of DVB-t ? I thought the point of freeview was to reach people with poor UHF reception?.

Is HD only being broadcast on DVB-t?

How many years? I doubt it. Where have you heard this?

Exactly. I suppose if in UHF covverage was extended to the remote areas of NZ then there would be no need for the sat service.

Yes. DVB-T bandwidth is cheap compared to DVB-S

All the best for your setup. 2xBDA would be ideal, the BDA driver really is much better, more stable and faster channel changes etc

From a friend who was recently in shop enquiring about a media box. The shop is usually good and the guys there reasonably knowledgable. But having said that he has been persuaded too buy two combo cards (DVB-s & DVB-t), so in hind sight he may have had some sales spin applied.

It did sound strange to me when he said it.

Can anyone scan in "Sky 1" in TV Server? It's supposed to be on 12608 H but when I scan I get lots of channels but no sky 1!?
