Can mulitpul tuners be used... (1 Viewer)

I have a system with 6 TV tuners and I am wondering if it possible to have a number of tuners ‘tuned’ to different channels with active timeshift buffers. This will allow changing between streams to see different shows… I can currently do this with my Meedio set-up.

The challenges seem to be:

When TV is ‘stopped’ the tuner is stoped and the buffer dropped. Is it possible to stop playing the TV but not stop the timeshift?

When changing channels it only uses the current ‘live’ tuner unless the ‘new’ channel is being recorded on another tuner.

Within Meedio I can see a list of all Tuners, see the channel they are tuned to and select any tuner. Each ‘tuned’ tuner will have an active timeshift buffer. Is there a ‘configuration’ that allows my tuners to be used in a similar way?

So have I just missed a simple setting?

    Hi!

You can try to start the "stream" manually (in TV-server). Choose channel and start "timeshift".
Then it should be possible to choose that stream from the client (there is a button for that under TV, don´t remember its name right now).

don´t know if this fulfill your requirements, but it might do?

Thanks for you support and input.

I have tried a few things.

In the TV menus there is a 'Turn TV on' button that starts live TV for a 'nominated/last' channel. It is then playing...

In TV Sever Config I can see my tuners and I can start a Tuner, when I start a second tuner the first is stopped. If I 'record' on a tuner I can then start a 'live' session on another tuner but still only have one 'live' session.

This seems like a real limitation, well for me.

Ok, have you tried to map your channels?
Preferable if you can map all channels for a certain MUX/transponder to a dedicated TV-card.

If you do that, I think it shall be possible to start a stream for each channel. NOT shore though!

Thanks for all your help Tompa.

Given the limited level of response I assume that this is how MP is meant to work. However, I can't really see the point of this design this seems to significantly dilute the value of timeshift, i.e. it only works for the current show while you are watching it. So if I want to check another TV show I will lose the current buffer. If I want to check music, recorded TV, TV Shows... The tuner will be stopped and hence there will be no timeshift buffer.

All that is needed is to capability to Stop playing TV rather that stop the tuner.

Also the benefit of having multiple tuners is to be able to tuner to channels and then swap between tuners/channels. Given that there is not a list of Tuners to select this cannot be done. This capability is not should be able to fit with current MP. In TV there is the ability to see the 'streams' this just needs to show the 'active', 'recording' and 'idle' streams (Tuners). Selecting a tuner has the same effect as 'Turn on TV' button.

Looks like all the core system is there just needs to be harnessed.

But I will say thanks again. I have decided to do a fresh install of XPMCE and Meedio in a bid to get stability and functionality. And I have to say it is working well.

Possibly MediaPortal 2 will better support TV.
