    Hi.

With MP 1.1(Latest SVN 30/11) + Moving Pic. 1.0.1 i cannot delete movies with the 0-key`

If i test the 0-key in My Pictures or My Movies it works, but not in Moving Pictures.

When I press the 0-key, the cursor rapidly jumps to first menu item and jumps back again.

Even if I open the Movie info screen, and tries to delete from there, nothing happens.

The only way I can delete the movie is by using the right click mouse button menu. (So the option to delete movies in Moving Pictures settings is enabled/working.)

    Any suggestions/solutions?

Well you are right, Moving Pictures doesn't bind the 0 key to the delete button. This key is normally used for remote control filtering, but honestly I wasn't aware that this was a standard key binding across MediaPortal components.

We could perhaps talk about adding this new binding, it would make a bit of sense considering it is used by other MediaPortal components, but I have my reservations. We intentionally require several key presses to delete and confirm the deletion of a movie. This is not an easily reversible action and we don't want someone accidentally deleting a movie they didnt intend to. I think binding the delete action to the 0 key is not very intuitive as well...

Has anyone else ever noticed this? Feel strongly either way?

I am also using the 0-key to delete stuff in various other places.
But when it comes to Moving Pictures, I would definitely prefer the remote control filtering above the ability to delete with 0-key.

I know it is personal preference, but for me, deleting movies should be difficult to do.

Same for me, I even have the deletion of movies via the GUI disabled to prevent any accidents. Unlike with the MP-TVSeries plugin where I use the '0' option to delete the broadcast episodes after I've watched them, movies tend to stay stored a lot longer.

To use the '0' to switch between the SMS-style sorting and jump to the start of all the movies starting with that letter works very nice, so my vote is in with rekenaar.

An added bonus is that the Moving Pictures 'file monitor' works much better then it does with MyVideos or the MP-TVSeries plugin. With the latter there is an actual noticable delay (rotating GUI animation) everytime I delete a file from within the GUI as it seems to scan all the TV shows and not just the episode in question. If I would delete the file manually from within Windows Explorer with the plugin running I ended up with problems due to database corruption. Now that the DELAYED stuff has been included with Moving Pictures v1.0.x, the watcher works awesome and copy/move/delete/rename events are picked up instant without any noticable delays.

I did run into a crash of the configuration importer, where I would rename a file at the same time it was being processed, but I don't think time has to be wasted on fixing it, because conditions are too rare (and I should have known better).

Okay - So its not a feature in Moving pictures.

Can of course see the logic in not binding the 0-key to delete, when it actually is used in the filtering.

I personally use the delete option, when I have have seen a Movie - I don't store my movies.

I just miss an easy way to delete movies from the menu - I also think that a Confirmation dialog still is needed!

As far as I know, the 0-key in sms style is either 0 or [space] How many would start filtering with a [space]/0?

Futhermore, in a Sorted alphabetic list, the movies starting with 0, will always be present in the top, so no filtering with 0 is needed

But 0-key is as mentioned a easy way to jump to start of list.

Could delete be binded to another key? [DEL] or other specific - Maybe Moving Pictures settings should have several shortcut options to choose between.

Or maybe it can temporarely be solved by, just displaying the Delete file option in the right click menu, when standing in the list view. It a bit annoying to: Enter the Movie - right click, Choose Delete, Press OK to confirm, Exit the Movie.

Thanks for your support - And great work being done:)

0 is used for the Starts With filter
    Title (starts with)

    Type: manual

list movies starting with a specific letter

if you enter a key [0-9] now it will loop through the letters for the key showing you all titles that start with this letter or number
    examples

    0-3-3
all titles starting with the letter E
    0-7-7-7-7-7
all titles starting with the number 7
    0-6
all titles starting with the letter M

OK - Could we then bind the * or # key to delete? Would be easy to use existing mappings on most remotes.

Or else bind the [DEL] keyboard button? This will force users to manually map DEL key to a remote button. That prevents users from deleting files by accident.

If the kids, who do love pressing wrong keys started deleting my movie collection, would not be a happy bunny, the more difficult the better, this should also apply to music\pictures, which tend to be a permanent part of my collection, so maybe the "0" buttons function should be changed, so deletion can only be done through a menu action by default, and those people who wish to risk accidental deletion have the option to Map "delete to any key they wish :)

ps. all files are backed up anyway, so no great loss, just inconvenient to restore missing ones, which you may not even notice in large collections until you want to access it :(

Remember you still have the option to disable the feature to delete files through the GUI. (Moving pictures has delete option deactivated as default)

So for us, that trust our kids or don't have any:-P Lets find a solution to the 0-key problem.

Keep it simple - as rest of the moving pictures features/settings:)
