After adding some new episodes in TV-Series I now cannot enter the configuration program and get the message:

"Exception in plugin SetupForm loading : Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

I have tried a fresh install along with a restore from MP backup but still the same problem exists even if I do a fresh install and just re-install the TV-Series plugin on it's own. Why, oh why is MediaPortal so buggy!!!??? I'm getting near to the point of giving up on it!

I have cleaned my registry, deleted all junk files and searched through all the user files for anything untoward...but still there seems to be some "residual" setting or configuration somewhere!!!

Any help would be appreciated...and save what little hair I have left that I haven't pulled out already!

Don`t give up. There is normally a simple solution out here! Have you tried deleting the TV series dB? This has helped me n the past when I can't get to the configuration.

    Hi,

Tried your suggestion and deleted the TV-Series database file from the user files along with another folder that had TV-Series db backups, cleaned the registry, un-installed TV-Series and re-installed but still no joy...same message. Just pulled out 3 of the 5 hairs on my head that I had left.

The log file contains all the info needed to properly assist you on tough issues.

You do need to adjust MediaPortal config to use debug-verbosity on the log files, so they actually contain useful information to debug your problem.

And then of course you have to recreate the problem so that the log files contain the info required. Then zip up *ALL* log files and provide them as an attachment. MP-TVSeries is just a small part of MediaPortal, which is why all log files are needed as problem might be caused by a conflict with some other gear in the machine.

    Hi,

Thanks for the info. I've attached the zip file...I think this is what is needed.

    well this is interesting:
    Code:
Failed to open database 'C:\Users\Kieron\My TV Series\Band of Brothers\Band Of Brothers - We Stand Alone Together.mp4'
The database is pointing to a mp3 file!

Seems like the registry entry has probably been changed to point to an invalid database. Can you do the following:

    1. Open Regedit.
    2. Expland HKCU->Software
    3. Delete the KEY 'MPTVSeries'.

Restart configuration and see if you still have the issue.

WOW...that was quick! It's so easy when you know how! :notworthy:

Worked like a charm...you have just saved me pulling the last two remaining hairs out of my head. (y)

I now know what I did...changed the path of the db file to a Band Of Brothers documentary "special" I was trying to add to the collection...must have been the vino taking effect! Thank you my friend.

Out of curiosity...what file are the registry entries stored in...and why when you do a complete uninstall that is supposed to delete all registry entries as well is this entry still left?

    Many thanks.

Windows keeps the registry file here: %systemroot%\config

Note: we only store one registry setting, and that is the location to the database if changed from configuration. We never delete the location of where the database is stored as it can simply be changed from config. But it would seem we need to put some checks in place for our vino users.

Maybe a health warning would be a good idea...

DO NOT OPERATE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL...may cause insomnia, balding, loss of appetite, anxiety, depression and an uncontrollable urge to drop your HTPC from an open window!

P.S. I did actually mean what file in the logs you found the culprit?

Thanks! This worked perfectly. Hope this is the only time I have to do this. Great plugin by the way!
