I am unable to add any channels to any TV Channel group other than "Any Channels".
I have tried adding channels to a previously created group or to a group created on the fly (using the context menu entry).
The group created on the fly doesn't appear until I have closed and reopened TVsetup, but it remains empty.
I have tried using both the context menu entry and the drag & drop method.
Using the context menu entry, nothing ever appears in the target group.
Using drag & drop, the channels appear in the target group's tab, but disappear again as soon as the tab loses focus.
I have tried adding channels both from the "Channels" list and from the "All Channels" group, but haven't observed any difference in behaviour between those two sources.
I couldn't find a TVsetup logfile, but there is an exception listed in the errors.bak & errors.log files attached, which looks as though it could be the source of the problem.
    :(

    Hi rsbrux

I suspect a problem with the database, but at this point I can't prove it. Can you describe *exactly* what you do step by step so that I can try to reproduce? For me, the following works:

    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Go to the "TV Channels" section.
    3. Right click on any channel, "add to group" -> "new...".
    4. Enter any random name.
    5. Click OK.
    6. The group will appear as a tab *immediately*, and the channel will be listed there. I can open MP immediately and view/select the channel from that group.

Exactly the steps you list *do not* work.
In that scenario, no new tab appears.
When I restart TVsetup, a new tab appears, but it is empty.

    If I
    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Go to the "TV Channels" section.
    3. Right click on any channel, "add to group" -> <name of existing group>
    4. No visible change takes place (focus remains on original tab).
    5. No channel is visible on target tab.

    If I
    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Go to the "TV Channels" section.
    3. Select any channel(s)
    4. Drag it/them over tab of target group
    5. Wait for tab to get focus
    6. Drop channel(s) in page under tab
    7. The channel(s) appear(s) in the group list
    8. Switch back to "Channels" or "All Channels" tab.
    9. Reselect the new group's tab.
    10. The group is empty.

Okay, thanks for the detailed steps. :D

What happens if you just try to create a channel group using the "add" button in the "channel groups" button group? In other words, I just want to clarify that this is a problem with channels getting added to the group, not with the creation of the group (so does the group appear immediately).

This is strange, as from what I can see in your logs your installation is very new!
Just in case the database is corrupted and I'm not seeing it in the logs, can you please do the following:
    0. Stop the TV service.
    1. Open a command line by clicking start, type "cmd", hit return/enter.
    2. Type cd C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin (this should be the path to the bin subdirectory within your MySQL install folder) and hit return/enter.
    3. Type mysqlcheck mptvdb --auto-repair -e -u root -p, and hit return/enter.
    4. A password prompt should appear. The default password is MediaPortal (case sensitive).

After that, please start the TV service again and see if you can still reproduce the problem.

If I click the "Add" button under "Channel Groups", a new group tab appears immediately.
If I try to add channels to the newly created group, the results are as described in my previous posts.
My wife is watching TV on MP right now.
This is an extraordinary development; I thank and congratulate the entire MP team for all the work which has led to this great release!
As a result, however, I will have to get back to you later about the results of repairing the DB.
The channel groups issue is only a minor problem for me.
    :D again for your help!

    P.S.
After running the DB repair and getting a complete series of "OK"s, the symptoms are still the same :(
    Thanks anyway.

    P.P.S.
Just out of curiosity, I tried making some Radio Channel Groups. Everything works as expected.
    Logfiles are attached.
The error logs I attached previously suggest that there is a type mismatch somewhere, but why should something like this only affect TV and only in my installation?

Any ideas on how to fix, or at least diagnose or troubleshoot this? The grouping feature would certainly improve MP's usability (i.e. "WAF"), not to mention eliminate downloading a lot of unneeded EPG information.

    Hi rsbrux

This is just a quick post to say I haven't forgotten about this issue - just haven't had even a moment to try and look at it. Sorry. :sorry:

I'm still having the same symptoms after updating to MP 1.2.2. Any chance of fixing this, short of a virgin reinstall?

I *think* I might be having a related problem.

I have some 80 TV channels and a few radio channels over DVB-IP. When I delete all channels (TV channels -> clear; Radio channels -> clear), all database tables get purged correctly, EXCEPT the groupmap table - a few records remain, containing obsolete channel IDs!

When I re-tune after that, I can't see the channels under "All channels" tab in TV channels (allthough I see them in the "Channels tab because I guess this one does not read from the groupmap table), I cant add channels to a new group, etc...

BUT! There is another funny thing - if I purge the groupmap table manually and then re-tune channels from scratch, database looks OK, but the TV guide in Mediaportal does not show any channels(!) If I leave "dirty" groupmap table, the TV guide correctly lists all available channels...

Steps to reproduce (at least for DVB-IP):

    1. Tune some channels
    2. Under TV channels -> All channels, sort them by name (not sure if this is necessary)
    3. Under TV channels -> Channels, click on "clean" and confirm deletion of all channels
    4. Check the groupmap table in mptvdb -> not empty (unlike the tunning and channel tables)
    5. re-tune channels
    6. Under TV channels -> Channels, there is a list of tuned channels, but under TV channels -> All channels there are no channes listed or there are only a few channels listed

further steps to reproduce TV guide error
    1. perform steps 1-4 above
    2. manually purge groupmap table (TRUNCATE groupmap; or DELETE FROM groupmap in mysql console)
    3. re-tune channels
    4. TV channels -> All channels now correctly shows all channels
    5. Launch MediaPortal, go to Watch TV -> TV guide - no channels are present and there are some skin errors (regardless of the skin)

hope this helps in locating the problem...
