I noticed after my upgrade from 1.2.3 to 1.4 that I could no longer delete recordings.
Well on my NAS, guest has read only access, so when I checked the TVService, sure enough, it was running under LOCAL_SYSTEM rather than under the tvservice account I had created with the right permissions to the NAS. I could watch anything I wanted, but could not delete anything. Also, I am pretty sure that new recordings were going to local disk, but I am not 100% sure if that was something I had screwed up in the old config, or if the recording folders were automatically getting reverted to the local disk when it could not write to the NAS.
I just thought I would post this in case it helps someone else.
