Can't get folder thumbnails to show (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I have just rebuilt my HTPC on new hardware.
Installed MP 0.2.3.0
On previous system, I don't remember configuring anything special, just scanned music database and
after that I could see most of my stuff with nice thumbnails.

Now, on the new system, I just can't get thumbnails to show.
I tried different options in 'Music Database' config. I checked 'folder.jpg', *png, *.jpg (front preferred) and cover art
embedded in id3 tags. Also tried to uncheck folder.jpg, *png, *.jpg (most of my files have embedded cover art).
No luck. I see thumbnails on individual files with embedded cover art, but never on the album folder.

The only way I got some thumbnail to appear was to copy file cover.jpg to folder.jpg. That worked, but I assumed that any .jpg file should work.

Any ideas.

Could you show a log after scanning with "*png, *.jpg (front preferred)" enabled?
Are your thumbs\music\folder & album directories populated?

thumbs\music\folder & album are populated with images including those that I'd expect to see as thumbnails.

I attached the log (some lines saying "no usable cover art found" were removed since they were not latin anyway, but
non of albums that supposed to have cover art thumbs was in the list in any case. Majority of my collection does have either images in directory or embedded id3 and did not appear in the list)

I still neither have a crystal ball nor more info from you.


The log did show you in detail which albums will not have coverart. Show me everything when it fails.

The more infos we get the more likely we'll see why it fails for you...

Sorry, I didn't realize that there is not enough data. I included all the information that you asked for.
I did clean reinstall of MP from scratch and only included 1 album to illustrate the problem.
Note that my music files are located on Y drive. Can it cause the problem?

Let me know if anything else is needed to track down the issue.

I have a similar problem. Artist thumb is fine, Album thumb doesn't show. Drill into the album and all the tracks have the correct thumb. Just not showing at Album level.

0.2.3 no svn.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I didn't remember to tell you to set MP's log level to debug. Therefore I miss some relevant info from MediaPortal.log.

However the first issue I noticed was MP searching for <album name> but the folder was named like "<year> - <album name>". If no 1:1 mapping is possible MP has to rely on its "folder cache thumbs". Please check whether configuration->general->thumbnails->autocreate missing folder cache thumbs is enabled.

Browse your dirs and check thumbs\music\folder (e.g. setting Explorer to display preview).
Do you spot that cover there?

Thanks for the information. Here is the list of facts, somewhat confirming your idea:

1. thumbs\Music\Folder was empty
2. When I switch to Artist view (it was set to Shares), thumbnails appear correctly
3. "Create missing folder.jpg" was set from the beginning
4. I changed settings in "Import Music\Custom paths and filenames" to match my directory layout and I clicked
"Update database from selected shares". Now I see jpg files in \thumbs\Music\Folder. I will check if they appear
later since I don't have access to TV right now, I suspect they will.

I suspect that it might be a bug introduced at some point, since my previous installation of MP worked correctly. I suspect that once DB is build, you will see no difference. So I built DB using older version of MP that didn't have that issue and then I installed 0.2.3 and it showed thumbs correctly since they were already built.

I will provide log later when I get to run MP. In the meantime, how do I enable debug logging?

Open MP Configuration
Click on General
Log Level is in the bottom part.
